Cracking open the case and popping the battery out are both easier with a small flat head screwdriver. I've done it per these instructions a few times too though. Good video. It helped me remember the procedure. I had completely forgotten how to start.

Thanks for this. I would add that you should put a strip of Scotch tape over the front buttons before you pry apart the housing. It keeps those little buttons in place nicely.

My mom was crying to me about how her car keys werent working and how she was gonna have to pay hundreds of dollars because she broke her keys. She also told me the night before her car was telling her her batteries were low and that she was going to replace them later. Can you guess what the issue was? This video is missing a very important part, you must keep your thumb pressed on the section that holds the battery or the whole thing will fall apart and you will spend the next 30 minutes reassembling your key bob!

IMPORTANT: Tape outside buttons (lock, unlock, open trunk or rear hatch) in place before doing this! Or just keep the buttons facing down on a flat surface while replacing the battery. The piece that holds the keys can come apart from the battery-holding piece, scattering little rectangular buttons everywhere.

I did this, then somehow all the buttons popped out when I was struggling to get the old battery out. I put them back but they're really hard to keep in place while you put everything back together. I did finally replace the battery, and everything works miraculously; but my key fob doesn't close properly and the buttons look lopsided. I may have to take it to the dealership anyway ... Same useless feeling I always have after I've failed at a diy project 😕
