Can you briefly explain how to get to the batteries after unscrewing the casing from the body? The White cover plastic seems to be blocking the batteries

Soon as you unscrew the casing, you'll see the batteries. Just carefully pry off the soldering/welding sheet on top of each and pull them out. I guarantee you nothing complicated at all.

Take the unit apart as seen, you'll find 5 x 18650 cells inside, get the same cell or even something with higher capacity like I did. I hope that clears the issue. Feel free to ask questions incase it's still isn't clear.

@@Sir-Kay gotcha thanks! I didn’t realize before posting that 18650 describes the size & voltage of the cells and that basically any of them will do. I was worried about pushing the wrong voltage or the cells not fitting :)
@Sir-Kay2 жыл бұрын
@@micheltrottier-mcdonald7961 No, I didn't say it's the voltage, it's just the size. But, check any reputable brand of 18650 battery and there must be some sort of label that describe the exact voltage, capacity and Amperage of that particular battery, and that my friend is what you want to get or at least what you want. So, like I said, I up'ed mine just to get a few more minutes running time and it worked like charm, just longer charging period but, hey! it was worth it because now I get 30 minutes instead of 15 stock minutes which could mean 1 car or two extra to vacuum :-)
Mine can barely run for 10 seconds now... I wish I had the skills to do this repair 😢

No wonder I can't find replacement battery pack, because it's not a quick plug & play replacement. Good vacuum, terrible battery design. Thank you for this video. I'll be ordering high capacity 18650 cells from amazon.
@Sir-Kay Жыл бұрын
Just be careful while soldering it and invest in a better solder than I did, also learn better soldering technics. Remember the gold is to get it done safely. And yes, it's the best budget handheld vacuum cleaner out there.
@ntsarb8 ай бұрын
Do not solder them. It is not safe. Also, when removing the battery cells, there is high risk of cutting through the thin plastic insulator and causing a short circuit (because of how the Li-Ion cell is built), which typically starts a chemical and impossible to put-off fire! It is much safer to ask a professional who builds batteries (e.g. those who repair electric bicycles) to do it for you. I have purchased a high-quality battery spot-welder for the purpose of building Li-Ion batteries (like this). I still haven't used it, simply because it requires a lot more preparation, e.g. how to deal with a Li-Ion chemical fire if it accidentally occurs, etc, etc.

Just a simple case of buying the batteries from the lowest bidder... thank god they are easy swappable!

@LibertyRapsherКүн бұрын
@@KayoMichiels odds are if there's a lowest bidder then there must be a higher bidder in which case you'll have to buy them from the highest bidder, since the lowest bidder typically doesn't win the bid. But one could always strive to be the highest bidder and eliminate the middle man. No but seriously, it all depends on if the replaced batteries are going to be more reliable than the horrific ones that come with them, otherwise one is merely breaking their balls to save 25 bucks or so by doing it themselves.

Thanks for the tuto. I've reached the battery pack but I have a question!... I am at that step of removing the welding plates. You mention using a flat screwdriver or box cutter... I've started playing a bit with my flathead screwdriver, trying to pry those (they seem very well in place!) - but anyhow I played for a couple second and it made a little spark. That kinda scared me out of it :) Any info on that? Am I endangering my life here?
@Sir-Kay4 ай бұрын
You don't want a spark, you probably shorted something there. Make sure you're doing this outdoors like you see me did. I didn't get any sparks throughout the process 'cos I didn't let the metal part of the screwdriver touch other metals/batteries. If you don't have confidence in your skill maybe you could just take it to an handy electrician to take it apart for you, give him new 5 18650 cells and he should put it together for you in minutes.
@benoitlauzier99624 ай бұрын
@@Sir-Kay thanks for the reply. I was already at that step of strongly considering an electrician :) But still I am wondering: how the hell ( :) ) could I be lifting those tabs up, without touching the metal or the battery? I kinda have to push the flat screwdriver BETWEEN the plates and the battery, aren't I? they're very hard to take apart... it's soldered there it seems and require a lot of prying?... any info at that point is for curiosity - I'll have someone handle it :) Thanks.

@@Sir-Kay on a side-note: my black decker vac stick had 5 spots for batteries - but there is only 4 of those batteries in there. Weird. I thought I'd swap the 4 of them, since I'd have no idea to add a fifth battery to the chain. But why design 5 spots, if they only use 4 of them :)
@Sir-Kay4 ай бұрын
@@benoitlauzier9962 Maybe try a flat screwdriver not a blunt one, stick it between those tabs and the soldering point then, pry off in one quick motion so as to reduce the risk of sparking. Pause at 3:22 and watch how easy it came off. If we both have the same brand, I'd assume the soldering process should be the same, it shouldn't be this hard unless you're speaking of another brand.

Whatever you do don't place the solder on the batteries any longer than 3-5 seconds failure to do so, might risk explosion.
@ntsarb8 ай бұрын
Soldering Li-Ion cells damages them. Li-Ion batteries are welded, as this process releases energy (heat) only locally and does not expose the internals of the battery to high temperatures. Handling Li-Ion battery cells requires expertise. Li-Ion fires are chemical, cannot be put off using water/CO2/foam and produce toxic smoke, so don't DIY unless you know what you are doing!
