The thing about not making the battery easily replaceable is that ALL batteries degrade over time (a year or 2), some quicker than others depending on how often you charge it and use it. This sucks for people who like to hold on to the same phone for 3-5 years before buying a new one. If you're someone who is constantly paying to upgrade to a new model, it's not as big of a deal. Since I've never dropped ANY of my phones in water and most phones can handle water being splashed on them, I would much rather just have a phone with a removable back panel than a waterproof phone.

I just replaced my battery in my S8 using their kit. Its all pretty easy besides getting the glass back off, kind of a pain to get the tiny connectors back connected but not to bad. Just a heads up be very careful prying the back off and be prepared to spend 75% of the time of the project on it. I replaced mine due to swelling, which itself made getting my back off easier but still a pain. Their IOpener works ok but a heat gun/hair dryer works way better.

S9 and S9+ has a glass backing that breaks EXTREMELY easy. The needed 170F to 212F is frustratingly difficult to maintain while attempting battery removal. Too hot to touch. Precision handling is worse wearing gloves. The adhesive is way stronger than these videos demonstrate. Even with removal kit, a hard focus and patience, I ended up breaking the glass. Samsung has designed this phone to break easily if handled wrong.

I am with you, and that's cool...as long as you don't want your device to be water resistant, or super thin. It's a trade-off. This is actually pretty service-able compared to some other devices like Apple products. I also think the next big leap in battery technology will solve a lot of the problems, because you will have a battery that never degrades significantly over the life of the device, and will hold a charge a helluva lot longer than Li-Ion does now.

Darla, the problem with this is that 99% of new phones these days have NO REMOVABLE BATTERY in them anymore. A lot of people don't even know the batteries are no longer removable because they end up just replacing with a newer phone because of some kind of yearly or bi-annual phone discount. The rest either don't care, or just have no real choice because there's nothing you can do about it. There have been large groups of people screaming about phone manufacturers moving towards non-removable batteries ever since 2013... and I am one of those people. Has it changed anything? NO. Phone companies don't give a shit that people are greatly DISPLEASED about the pathetic changes made to the phones battery. They know people don't have much of a choice and they SELL them anyway ...... because PROFIT. Phones this year aren't much faster than previous models.... but ohhhhhhh THAT SHINY GLASSBACK and BEZEL-LESS DISPLAY with notch.. oh people just GOTTA HAVE IT! ....And so people keep buying it, even after some manufacturers remove the headphone jack and call that a "feature". People are never LOUD enough about these pathetic changes, instead people are ACCEPTING of it and just eat up what the phone manufacturers and service providers feed them. nom nom nomity fuckin nom! No lawsuit will ever happen. Judges would toss that out in a flash. Most of us have been buying these phones. It says in the descriptions that the battery is NON-REMOVABLE. Now if they had lied about the battery actually being removable.... then yes, there could be a possible case here. If people REALLY want changes to phones, they need to be LOUD. That isn't happening. So we are STUCK with this bullshit. Of course, one can always go on ebay and look for older phones with removable batteries. The LG-V20 is a really good buy. I own one, not to mention it's still pretty fast for todays standards.
