The thing about not making the battery easily replaceable is that ALL batteries degrade over time (a year or 2), some quicker than others depending on how often you charge it and use it. This sucks for people who like to hold on to the same phone for 3-5 years before buying a new one. If you're someone who is constantly paying to upgrade to a new model, it's not as big of a deal. Since I've never dropped ANY of my phones in water and most phones can handle water being splashed on them, I would much rather just have a phone with a removable back panel than a waterproof phone.

I just replaced my battery in my S8 using their kit. Its all pretty easy besides getting the glass back off, kind of a pain to get the tiny connectors back connected but not to bad. Just a heads up be very careful prying the back off and be prepared to spend 75% of the time of the project on it. I replaced mine due to swelling, which itself made getting my back off easier but still a pain. Their IOpener works ok but a heat gun/hair dryer works way better.

S9 and S9+ has a glass backing that breaks EXTREMELY easy. The needed 170F to 212F is frustratingly difficult to maintain while attempting battery removal. Too hot to touch. Precision handling is worse wearing gloves. The adhesive is way stronger than these videos demonstrate. Even with removal kit, a hard focus and patience, I ended up breaking the glass. Samsung has designed this phone to break easily if handled wrong.

I am with you, and that's cool...as long as you don't want your device to be water resistant, or super thin. It's a trade-off. This is actually pretty service-able compared to some other devices like Apple products. I also think the next big leap in battery technology will solve a lot of the problems, because you will have a battery that never degrades significantly over the life of the device, and will hold a charge a helluva lot longer than Li-Ion does now.

This is such a joke. My old phone had a panel that popped off then you unplugged the existing battery and then plugged back in the new one and closed the access plate. Done! I see where Samsung, an most likely all phone companies, want you to just buy a new phone. How awful is that? It is like buying a car and when you run out of gas you need to buy a new one as there is no way to access the fuel tank?

The video isn't stupid, the company who decided to seal the battery away that bad is. I loved my waterproof Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, and how I could go for long trips in the mountains, woods, beaches or everywhere and simply change the battery afterwards. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is great, but the battery is still a bit too low, especially for someone that goes out on geocaching alot.

The battery in the LG V20 is GREAT! I have an S4 (non-Active) that worked great, but the battery life was always around 5-6 hours of screen on time. My V20 on the other hand gave me just over 10 hours of screen on time for the first year. Such a great phone. I never imagined I could get such long life AND have a removable battery at the same time.

Darla, the problem with this is that 99% of new phones these days have NO REMOVABLE BATTERY in them anymore. A lot of people don't even know the batteries are no longer removable because they end up just replacing with a newer phone because of some kind of yearly or bi-annual phone discount. The rest either don't care, or just have no real choice because there's nothing you can do about it. There have been large groups of people screaming about phone manufacturers moving towards non-removable batteries ever since 2013... and I am one of those people. Has it changed anything? NO. Phone companies don't give a shit that people are greatly DISPLEASED about the pathetic changes made to the phones battery. They know people don't have much of a choice and they SELL them anyway ...... because PROFIT. Phones this year aren't much faster than previous models.... but ohhhhhhh THAT SHINY GLASSBACK and BEZEL-LESS DISPLAY with notch.. oh people just GOTTA HAVE IT! ....And so people keep buying it, even after some manufacturers remove the headphone jack and call that a "feature". People are never LOUD enough about these pathetic changes, instead people are ACCEPTING of it and just eat up what the phone manufacturers and service providers feed them. nom nom nomity fuckin nom! No lawsuit will ever happen. Judges would toss that out in a flash. Most of us have been buying these phones. It says in the descriptions that the battery is NON-REMOVABLE. Now if they had lied about the battery actually being removable.... then yes, there could be a possible case here. If people REALLY want changes to phones, they need to be LOUD. That isn't happening. So we are STUCK with this bullshit. Of course, one can always go on ebay and look for older phones with removable batteries. The LG-V20 is a really good buy. I own one, not to mention it's still pretty fast for todays standards.

All I can say is get insurance, unless you are handy with your hands. Also buy a case for it. I broke my screen glass cover and my tech said I am better off with the insurance. The screen cover alone is in the upper $200.00. My replacement through insurance was $199. Remember, if you have an insurance replacement you cannot mail the battery with it, by law. Taking off the back to access the battery is difficult. I did it with a hairdryer and guitar picks. The battery is also glued in so pay attention to these instructions.

Contrary to what he said -- it can be safely replaced by purchasing the exact model of battery the phone uses and then having someone manually replace it. I'm currently doing so for my Samsung S8. Always remember not to get rid of your phone if you have important information on it as (unless everything is stored on a Sim/SD). Whoever finds it and fixes it will then have access to all of the information.

I agree. I have an S8. The battery swelled. After 2 attempts by Samsung Tech Center to repair it with a new battery, The higher level department customer service just send me a new battery.

Thats pretty much over. LG and Motorola are the last ones with removable from 2016 at least. Now LG is going non-removable. And Lenovo/Motorola sucks. Removable batteries are essentially done for 2017 and on. I think the Chinese phone companies might still have it.

Waterpoofing is measured in terms of the ip ratings that phones get. Just because S5 was given a rating in the waterproofing doesn't mean it is fully waterproof. For your info, S5 was given IP 67 whereas S8 has IP 68. And there is lot of difference between 67 and 68.

Ok now can someone tell me how to do it without buying this kit? It doesn't ship to my country anyway. I mean there must be ways to do this without the kit.

Notice that she does not actually repair a phone. The video shows someone's hands do it - not her's. Lots of video editing here. Don't believe it is easy. This is a terrible design meant to generate more money from loyal customers.

Tried doing this and broke the back part of my phone in half hahahahaha failed to mention that it's actually glass. Might just buy another samsung s5 or 6 or something that allowed me to just remove the back with ease. Fucking ridiculous.
