you can use the srew to pull out the old seal with the engine in place then use a plastic pipe with the old seal upside down to install the new seal.

Can this crankshaft seal be replaced without removing the entire engine? Remove the cutting deck, clutch assembly, drive belt and pulley? After draining the oil, tip the mower up on its rear end? Is this possible?

I was told the oil blower/pump can get clogged producing excessive pressure in the crankcase and forcing the oil seal out? Is there a valve or hoses that should be cleaned to prevent this from happening? Or this not a real concern? Thanks!

I've never heard of that issue, and I observed the oil pump in this engine to be working just fine. Sometimes seals just go bad after 17 years, you know? It's working just fine now, I'm pleased to report. Thanks for watching.

Can you change the seal without removing the engine?

Possibly. But it was such a dirty oily mess, I preferred to pull the motor and give it all a good cleaning.

I’m thinking the same way. Did it work?

Reason I don’t use battery tools is they just don’t have the power of air tools and why have to get up and go get air tools or break over
