How to replace the Jog Wheel pressure sensor on a Pioneer CDJ

How to remove and replace a damaged DSX1078 jog wheel pressure sensor on most models of Pioneer CDJ. Please check this is the correct part no for your model.

Can't believe I never tried this before, but some gentle heat on the old pressure ring and it will pull away from the plastic without leaving the old glue behind. GENTLE don't damage the plastic are anything else. I used my hot air rework station at 100 degree C.

Thanks, really well presented video. Stretching out the three spring a tad also can improve the motion of the jogwheel and resolve issues with the pressure sensitivity as they compress over time. Can confirm the CDJ1000 is almost identical Wish I'd have watched this video before trying to figure out myself how the jogwheel worked to try and fix it.

but it makes it feel a bit too springy when you press down if not carefull, I have done it a few times and when I dj on them later it's obvious and feel wrong.

Wouldn't you always want to just replace the springs while you have the player opened up for this job? I am about to do one of my CDJ-2000Nexus players and I got the pressure ring and the springs ready to go. I appreciate this video!

It's 2024 and I randomly stumbled on this video on KZbin while searching for a solution to fix my CDJ800Mk2 which had the same issue with the jog wheel. The only difference in my case is that I did not replace the sensor ribbon but I rather wiped the ribbon clean using a piece of tissue paper coz I found out it had liquid residues (WD-40) (I had at one point used the WD-40 spray as part of a routine maintenance on the player). This resulted to loss of contact between the sensors and the ribbon. After this, the player started working out perfectly. I know what you mean by the old sheet coming off easily on this one. Mine left all the glue behind. What a pain. It took me a good 30 min to scrape it all off. do you have any tricks for this?

sorry, I normally use something to remove the glue and scrape it too. It was always very messy on the cdj 1000

Thanks for the brilliant video. I wanted to change the metal top plate on my Pioneer DDJ-SZ it’s got a deep scratch on it. Everything is working fine. Would the best way to remove it is to use the heat from a hairdryer to soften the glue?

Hello, I have the same problem, only that if I let the track start, in vinyl mode when I put a hand over the record the track stops, but it does not go back and forth the jog. Changing this piece back working ?

Hi, great video thank you. i have a different problem i wondered if you had come across. cdj2000 nexus, all seems fine but if you turn the jog wheel with any kind of speed the track then starts to go backwards! it works fine if you turn it backwards and slowly forwards is fine but put and speed on it and it gets confused. i have cleaned the little sensor and clear tracking wheel but still the same. Any help at all would be mighty appreciated. Thank you so much.

sorry it's not a fault I have had. The wheel works as en quadrature encoder so it has a IR LED and IR sensor. as the light shines thorough that tiny disc with the very very smol lines it knows the direction and speed it's moving so if it moved backwards ok I am not sure why it does not move forwards

@@mikerodbourne9459 start by swapping the top between two decks. Then I think the center display pcb does the encoding I am not sure so you could try swapping those too

@@DJlegionuk well , gave it a go. and nope its not anything to do with that. most perplexed by it. the sensor on the cdj2000 has a slightly different part number to the nexus so maybe it is different and not backwards compatible. the nexus one works in the 2000 but maybe the 2000 sensor doesn't match the nexus! guess ill have to try and locate one to try. i dont suppose you sell spares lol.

Yes it's basically the same for all cdj before the 3000. just check the correct part number first.

trace the connections back, if replacing the pressure ring did not fix it then it will be a connection problem.

Hi! Thanks for the video, nice tutorial! I have a question, maybe you could help me. My cdjs2000nxs jog top is a little scratched, is it possible to change only the top (the silver top) or I have to change the whole jog? I found the code of the plate, should be DAH2907

HI, yes it's possible , but a bit of a pain to do. I replaced them on a XDJ-RX2 and you have to heat them up to loosen the glue and if it's the same they had a small access hole on the underside so you could push the plate up. Depending if the new part has the glue on the back you might need to order a new glue sheet as well.
