How to Replace the Low Beam Headlight Bulb on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata

This is how to replace a low beam headlamp on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata on the passenger side. There are two lamp housings on this car, one for low beam and one for high beam.

It’s all about preference. It’s easy to take off this assembly and plus you can see what you are doing instead of ‘feeling’ around. But it’s only an extra work of three bolts. But if you prefer to leave them on that’s fine too!

Please reference the side of the vehicle you are working on as the "passenger side." This convention has been long established. Shining a flashlight on (and zooming IN ON) the cap, the bulb connector, and the wire spring clip would have really been a helpful technique for this video. Thanks for making this video - I understand it, even without seeing it, based on your description since my motorcycle's three headlamp bulbs change the SAME WAY. Thanks.

Furthermore, if one is going to reference which side of the vehicle using left and right, do so as if you were sitting in the drivers seat, this practice is what is used by automobile manufacturers, and automotive repair literature.

Audio description of the video worked for me. Gotta be sure the shorter end of the spring is completely out of the way or it will get stuff under the bulb plate instead of over it like it should be. Just saved me $80-100 bucks by not going to the dealership. They probably would have said the buld going out was caused by my crankshaft being out of line and needing lever fluid, which it cause the one light to go out...hahahahaahaaahaa. thanks!

This headlamp bulb H7 changes the EXACT SAME WAY as the bulbs on my 2005 BMW K1200S & 2016 BMW K1300S motorcycles - believe it or not.

Also you don’t want to touch the glass with your skin since skin oils can heat bulb up and make it burn out easily

No the oils boil on the glass and cause it to shatter. The glass is filled with a mixture of an inert gas and a small amount of a halogen such as iodine or bromine. The combination of the halogen gas and the tungsten filament produces a halogen cycle chemical reaction which redeposits evaporated tungsten to the filament, increasing its life and maintaining the clarity of the envelope. But you probably have a blown fuse.

You're losing 50% of your down road and 40% of the brightness with those hazy lenses.

To clarify the lenses, buff out with Mothers Aluminum Mag Wheel Polish, wash residue with soap & water, then rinse. Dry, then place 2 or 3 coats of UV protectorant in stages, letting each coat dry. Alternatively - replace the entire headlamp buckets with new units after you treat the new units with 2 or 3 coats of UV protectorant.
