Nice easy job Phil and a good ‘how to’ video👍. I changed our original jockey wheel for an Alko pneumatic tyre about 8 years ago. It loses air between trips so it probably needs the rim cleaning. That aside it’s brilliant on any surface and doesn’t dig itself into gravel. Cheers, Rob 😀

Hi Rob I chose this jockey wheel and the mechanism is on a ratchet so it doesn't unwind when towing like my Alko one did. The wheel on this model is very good on gravel better than the Alko plastic ones. I had a new pneumatic one but it would not hold the air very well. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Hi Phil, nice easy job. Had to replace ours this year after the jockey wheel dropped while driving along the M6. Merry Christmas

Just had to change our Jockey wheel tyre, Whilst backing off drive with motor mover the breakaway cable fell into wheel, damaged tyre and pulled on brakes flat spotting tyre. Found your video very helpful in performing the task 👍

Another good video. I have just recently replaced my ALKO jockey wheel with a Kaart one. I’ve also replaced the split pin with an R clip which makes any removal of the wheel ,if required, far easier.

Hi Norman. The mechanism on the Kaart Jockey wheel is second to none but they struggle with the rubber compound of the wheel. I am hoping the new wheel will last longer than the original. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Is it wise to have your vans weight sitting on the front steadies?
@lostweekendscaravan Жыл бұрын
Hi Billy Bob. Not all the time as they are not attached to the chassis but for the very brief period I had resting it should be fine. You could always use a Axle stand on the A frame if you are not happy with how I did it. Hope this helps, Phil🙂👍

Hi Phil where did you get your replacement jockey wheel from, and what make is it? Thanks Paul
@lostweekendscaravan Жыл бұрын
Hi Inverblue. I bought it from Kartt direct a couple of years ago. They have improved the rubber on the wheel now. I would suggest you buy direct as there are still a few of the old wheeled models out there. Thanks Phil👍🙂 www.kartt.com/

Interesting Phil as I changed my complete Jockey wheel a few weeks back. The standard one although not quite 4 years old, was looking a bit jiggered and wasn't the easiest to use. I've swapped it for a complete new Kartt (?) unit which was pretty good value from a towbar fitter in Stockport. As a security measure, I think I read somewhere about some owners removing the jockey wheel completely when the c'van is in store ? The idea being it's removal would provide an extra level of security in addition to the wheel clamp and Alko hitch lock. What do you think? 🤔

Hi Martin thanks for commenting. In answer to your question. You should leave the Jockey wheel in place as it is load bearing. The steadies are not mean't to support the Caravan for long periods of time as they do not form part of the chassis. Also they would just man handle on to their tow bar anyway. Many Thanks Phil👍🙂

@lostweekendscaravan Жыл бұрын
Hi David. There is no switch on the a frame, there is the ATC Light and a adhesive clip for my Electric cable. Hope this answers your question. Thanks Phil
