How To Replace Toter® Cart Wheels

Replacing the wheels on your Toter cart is easier than you think. All you need is a flat head screw driver, a hammer, and new wheels.
Once you have everything ready, lay the Toter cart upside down so the wheels are off the ground.
Locate the Pal-Nut, which is the metal cap found on the outside of the wheel.
Place the head of the screwdriver on the tab, the small groove found on the Pal-Nut, and with your hammer, hit the screwdriver at least twice. Rotate the Pal-Nut and repeat.
Pull off the Pal-nut. If it doesn’t come off easily, try hitting the tab a couple more times, or hit the back of the wheel with your hammer.
Pull the second wheel that’s still attached to the axle out of the cart.
Once the old wheels and axle have been removed:
Drive the new axle onto a pal-nut with a hammer.
Slide a wheel, spacer side facing up, down to the pal-nut.
Slide the axle through the openings on the bottom of the cart.
Slide the second wheel, with the spacer facing the cart, onto the axle.
Drive second pal-nut onto the axle with a hammer.
Stand your Toter cart upright, and you are all finished.

I found it impossible to remove the Pal-Nut with a few taps of a screwdriver. And I have done a lot of do-it-yourself work over the years.

My can has plastic retainers, but I’m guessing metal inside. It has 2 rectangle holes going into the wheel next to the axle, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to remove the plastic clip (to remove the wheel). Anyone else run into this?

I had to rip the pal nut off with vice grips. No way 2 light taps take it off. Im mechanically inclined too.

Where do we get replacement wheels? Any benefit to replacing broken wheels with pneumatic wheels? They're available everywhere.

As the others have mentioned, pal nuts do not come off with a couple of hits, or even twenty. You need a major overhaul of this video for that portion. And do it with a real person in the real world.

I’m pretty handy but am unable to get the wheel nut off after quite a bit of effort pounding on the tabs with a big screwdriver. And beating on the wheels. What a waste of a Saturday morning. This is really a joke. I guess there aren’t any real American companies left with real American customer service and real warranties. Why not buy everything from China? At least you know it’s shit. The can broke in half after six months use. It took Toter three months to get me a replacement, which arrived shortly after my knee replacement, without wheels or a lid or complete instructions about how to replace both of those - easily. This Toter and replacement are headed for the landfill.

Stick a small screwdriver inside the holes and pull down until you hear the spring unlock
