Great work AJ you don't cut corners the way other KZbin mechanics have done on this kind of valve cover gasket replacement work. Most critical is cleaning the engine and valve cover areas before attaching the new gasket.

I have a 99 caravan with 3.3 and who ever designed the mounting of this engine should have to work on them every day ,all day for the rest of their miserable lives. Don't get me wrong because I absolutely love my van 223,000 miles and still chugging along. But I noticed yesterday that the valve covers are leaking while I was under it changeing the oil . So that's why I'm watching your vid . Thanks, this will help.
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the engine mounting could be better for sure. Well I hope you can get your valve cover leaks fixed. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day, and good luck to you.

Instead of using the flex wrench, why didn't you go from above with your universal joint and socket wrench to remove the two bolts on the back valve cover, just like you did on the front and just like you did to reinstall those two bolts. The access is essentially the same as for the front voce. Consider how the job would be done if you removed the cowl rather than removing the intake plenum.

Hey AJ first let me say I am very grateful for your videos! My question is I never understood torque pressure and have just tightened until it was tight (not over). Is there a special tool or gauge to tell you? How do you know when you're there? Thank you and to anyone for comments
@alfries97366 жыл бұрын
Hi every bolt on literally anything has a Torque Spec, or exactly how tight it is supposed to be, in mostly foot pounds, such as wheel bolts or nuts neef to be torked to 45 foot pounds on my wifes alloy rims or they will crack, valve cover bolts will be a lot less. The spec is usually in the shop manual, my spark pluhs were 20 foot pounds going into an aluminum head.
@ricardobeltran94875 жыл бұрын
Hey Derena there is a tool called a torque wrench.. you can find one even at Wal-Mart believe it or not lol.... but harbor freight has a good selection from pro expensive one to cheap begginer ones... if your starting off do yourself a favor and also pick up a breaker bar lol

How did you clean the valve cover mounting surface? toothbrush? what cleaner? thanks
@figibloom8 жыл бұрын
I usually use brake cleaner, acetone, gasket remover, or some other type of automotive cleaner depending on what I had on hand. I usually use a good sharp gasket scraper for cleanup. Also, I have used the green scotch brite pads, copper scouring pads, plastic roloc bristle disks, sand paper, and other things. You just have to be careful you dont want to mark up or gouge the surface, or leave behind a bunch of marks that may leak in the future, and you want a clean surface so the gasket does not leak. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for the comment and have a good day.

AJ Pierce how did you keep the debris from falling into the valve area? Also, how did you clean the covers themselves?
@dansir41022 жыл бұрын
When I go to clean mine, I’m going to try a plastic putty knife to scrape the majority, followed by a microfiber cloth soaked with a little carb cleaner, then a second microfiber with a little carb cleaner again for a final cleaning. Microfiber cloths eat through stuff. They’ve got these soft barbs that annihilate stuff but work better wet. Obviously I’m not gonna use water. And brake cleaner often is much too abrasive, destroying plastics and rubbers it comes in contact with. Microfiber cloth I think is 7k grit on the sandpaper scale.

would it be easier to remove the intake manifold and leave the fuel injection intact? I need to do the same job primarily on the rear VC gasket.
@figibloom9 жыл бұрын
+Dogedart67 It it your personal preference. I did it because I felt it got everything out of the way. Also I was planning on replacing my fuel injector o-rings anyway. But you don't have to remove the fuel rail. Thanks for the comment and have a good day.

could I just take off the wipers assembly to get to the rear valve cover? while taking of the pcv valve half of the plastic thread broke off and is still threaded in the hole so I don't want any plastic chips to fall inside if I chisel it from the top
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can get more room for yourself by removing the wiper assembly. Man that sucks your pcv valve broke off and is stuck inside. Well I hope you have good luck fixing it. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day, and good luck to you.

ozzy82696 how did you fix it?
@ozzy826967 жыл бұрын
instead of taking the valve cover off I just heated up a flat head and kept picking at it until I melted everything off, then I just took a vacuum and a small hose and vacuumed up all the chips of plastic that fell inside, I now have the new pcv valve on and no problems since

To any future weekend mechanics, it would very helpful if you guys remove the wiper assembly first, and if need be, that intake plenum, being careful not to disturb too many of the surrounding parts, fuel lines, connections etc. Also, there is a box frame or pocket about 5" wide under the PCV valve, so any little piece of whatever falls, will not fall into the engine. And if you do remove that cover you can shake anything that has fallen out. I feel its better to try and pull that pcv up and out while its held down by its screws.
@bcarr31167 жыл бұрын
So do I have to take off the back valve cover to change the PCV on a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. The valve is not the one with a hex nut around. Its in a bake a lite mount.
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
I am not sure, I have never worked on a 2008 model before, so it may be a little bit different. What is your engine size, do you have a 3.3L, 3.8L, or the 4.0L. From the diagrams I looked at on chiltonpro it looks like the 3.3L and the 3.8L should be the same as what i did in the video link I sent you, which does not require removal of the valve cover. However the 4.0L diagrams looks a little different. If you have the 4.0L give me your email and I can try to send you some info on removal and installation of pcv valve. Well I hope this info helps you out. Have a good day.
