www.ebay.com/itm/174344166205 I forgot to say this in the video but I had to use a washer under the part that presses on the spring because the tool came just barely too big to fit on top of the spring retainer. I got this washer for the hardware store for 15¢ and just glue it / jb weld i it to the bottom of the tool. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you do it. If not let me know

Hey I just wanted to say thank you for the clear in depth video and for all your answers in the comments. I have a 94 Lincoln town car with the same 2 valve 4.6 and its smoking habit has been getting worse and worse it’s starting to chug oil regularly. I thought I’d need an air compressor or 1,000 feet of yarn to do this job but your TDC for every cylinder method makes perfect sense and means I could do it without a compressor so thanks for all the info you posted. I hope I’ll be able to do this job on my car and get it to go another 100,000 miles

Good Job.... Old timers taught you about that grease on the keepers. Keep the old methods alive...
@CobraR1993
@CobraR1993 11 ай бұрын
I just did this. It's true, for a 4.6 you don't need to use a rope or compressed air. Just rotate the piston to the cylinder you're working on to TDC. There is no need to remove the camshafts but you do need to remove the camshaft girdles and you will need a special tool to push down on the valves to remove the keepers. That said if you're going this far to replace the valve stems you might as well install new valve springs. OEM is 7$ each or go with the upgraded beehive PAC springs.

I did the same on mine without the compressor trick (didn't have the correct fitting). I stuffed the first 4 cylinders full of yarn (boy was that time consuming). Then I realized the pistons were right on the valves at TDC and saved a bunch of time not fooling with the yarn. Good video though! I'm the guy with the yellow gt at the track BTW.

@@trbuilt5181 I put the piston at BDC then used a long screw driver to stuff 6 inches of yarn at a time in the cylinder until I had like 15 feet of it in there. Then I spun the engine over until it compressed the yarn against the valves. Took me like 8 hours to do the first 4 cylinders. Felt like an idiot when I figured out I didn't need the yarn at all. I need to do it on my 06 explorer with the 3 valve 4.6. I know I need to use different tool, but I also thought about not using the compressor. So basically you do a cylinder at a time and just put it in TDC, replace the seals, and move to the next one and bring it to TDC again. And all that 8 times, correct ? I would feel better if the piston is supporting the valves.

@@trbuilt5181 I'm not sure. But the hole was filled with oil and that is the one that failed I was told by the mechanic. It's all original 02 gt.

my cars smokes on start up sometimes not all the time and does it sometimes taking off as well had a problem with it stumbling on take off too if I floored it changed 02 sensor and seemed to fix it but it still seems to somewhat cut out a bit when flooring it I'm curious if this would be my issue or a bad fuel injector plugs were already changed and I didnt see really any signs of oil but I noticed I do lose oil over time so it probably is my seals

I’m pretty sure if your car stumbles it’s not the valve stem seals but the smoking on startup is the valve stem seals

Just don’t do what I did and use the starter motor to turn the motor over with a valve dropped down in the cylinder if you do use the starter to turn over the engine disconnect the coil so it doesn’t try starting like my 4000$ oops 😬
