HOW TO REPLACE YOUR KAWASAKI Z900 CLUTCH

If you have no tension on your clutch, make sure your clutch cable doesn't need to be replaced ($25 repair vs $250). 1. Drain the oil. Might as well do a full oil change. 2. Remove cluch wire from lever (near rear brake). 3. When removing clutch plate, know that clutch may be engaged. So, rotating counterclockwise or pulling upward may disengage clutch. If clutch wire is still connected, you'll have a hard time. 4. Keep disks & metal plates in order when removing, so that you can reinstall them in the same order except with new disks. You can pull the disks out from grabbing them from the slots and pulling them forwards. 5. When replacing clutch with OEM clutch disks, you may have orient the disks so that the side with the "notch" orients upwards, with the final disk being oriented towards the slots that are blocked (you'll see that there's a clear path for disks and a path thats blocked). I got aftermarket disks that had no notch but still changed the orientation of the last disk. 6. Tighten clutch spring bolts to 78 inch pounds. Get a 1/4" torque wrench for $20 to do this accurately. Overtightening will result in the clutch not having the proper clearance to engage and you won't be able to shift gears. 7. Tighten the clutch cover bolts to 109 inch pounds.
