My personal opinion only. As for the second repotting, you could have been able to repot and propagate the very same gigantic phel. What u should do is make a top cutting with three or four roots and pot in the plastic container or earthern pot. The remaing root portion u keep in the very same container or repot in a new cintauner. Your first phel will be much more beautiful in the new avatar and u can see a keiki coming up from the root portion. Your presentation is excellent and have good knowledge about orchids. I do experiment with phels and am successful99 per cent.

I bought an orchid today. It was white phalaenopsis with three blooming flowers,few buds and new upcoming stem and lots of green leaves. I didn’t notice much in the transparent pot as plants seemed good to me. But when i came to my place and i watered as it was drying already.I noticed it got sooo many small black ants were coming out out of the pots and lots of going here and there inside the pot, despite of healthy plants i just decide to repot it as i more into plants i watched video a long back i just followed. But when i saw roots it was tremendous amount of. So many roots were there. I removed many dead roots but still has many more healthy roots so it not fitting in the same pot not in the one inch larger which i had from before only. Some how I managed to fit in the one i had with very few charcoal chips as plant itself was larger so didn’t get much space. So now it’s has a lots of roots which can be easily noticed from the outsideitself when we look at from the top.i was surprised like in the pot it got coconut chips as media but it has hardly very few chips in it, and i was like how did it thrive.and source of ants was that coconut husk so i decided not use same media. So i added very few four or five small chunk downsides and few on the top most. I didn’t manage to fit them in between the roots as thet are large and many. So do i have to worry? As i am thinking that i added a very tiny amount of media in compare to orchid. What should be my approach? Do i have to leave as i did today or i have to buy another pot ? Thank you

Hi...phals can survive with very little media ...infact in nature where they grow on trees they have hardly any media other than the tree branch as anchor..same is the case with mounted orchids...no need to worry .u don't need to do anything urgently..repotting In a larger pot should be done subsequently..it can wait for a few days.. continue with what u have now,just make sure u water more frequently as the pot hardly contains any media so ur phal is almost bare rooted now..

Hello ma'am. Thanks for ur videos, they r very helpful. I have just bought my first phalaenopsis. Am going to follow your potting mix. Earlier I put spagnum moss at the bottom thinking in summers due to heat pot will dry, but it remains wet and the top layer gets dry, few roots have got soggy and rotten. Have seen some planting in plastic cups and keeping the roots all snucked up. Also pls let me know where I can get clay pots at reasonable cost.

Thank u 😊❤️ actually I don't do anything special..I prefer my phals mounted or in chunky airy media..avoid overwatering (more so avoid water on the leaves) ,good ventilation and if at all I see any weird spot ,I apply powdered cinnamon on it🙂 If at all I feel the crown is affected,I unpot .cut the affected portion of leaves and stem ,spray peroxide and apply a lot of powdered cinnamon...leave it like that for a few days without any water touching and then I pot /mount .🙂👍

Mam, what kind of stick you use to support a phalo spike
@adyashasorchiddiaries9550
@adyashasorchiddiaries9550 4 жыл бұрын
I don't usually for support the spikes..i let them hang the natural way😊but for supporting the plants while repotting i use Bamboo sticks, sometimes wooden barbecue scewers as well...I wrap it with black tape before putting inside media,that way it lasts for longer time😊👍

Hello Adyasha di, This video,is very helpful. I would like to ask you that can I use sponge, charcoal and brick pieces? I don't have spaghnum moss. And don't intend on buying g it,since I have just one Phalaenopsis. Plus the Kolkata weather does not support moss. Also I keep my phal on my east facing window and it receives sunlight until 8am..is that much exposure alright for it?
@adyashasorchiddiaries9550
@adyashasorchiddiaries9550 4 жыл бұрын
Hi...no till 8am sunlight is ok...not a problem..n about sponge ,I don't thik it's a good idea..coz moss wicks moisture and dry fast too but sponge on the other hand will hold it too long and take lot of time to dry..instead of moss u can try using coco coir (not husk) as an alternative..it doesn't decompose fast,it retains moisture for sometime and dries out fast...else u can try placing some yarn or strands of wool on the small new roots..it will hold moisture for sometime and dry fast and will be gentle to the roots..u can remove later🙂👍

Moss if u r using from packet,u can rinse it few times and use...and charcoal leca if using fresh ones then just washing thoroughly is enough...when I reuse charcoal and leca..I clean with dish soap ,rinse thoroughly and then boil in water for few minutes and after cooling they are good to use..I have not had any issues with reusing leca or charcoal 🙂👍

Thank u 😊❤️ so glad u enjoyed the video...the 3rd thing is leca ( expanded clay pellets),it's optional though..u can use only charcoal n moss also..I had ordered a lot of leca for hydroponics...still have a lot left ,so I'm using it for orchid media..some other inorganic media that u can add to it media are broken brick and clay pot pieces🙂👍

Mam, the Dendrobium orchids that that I have purchased,have come to me with coco chips around their roots. My query is should I remove it before repotting or not? I'm from Kolkata. Mam, it would have been better better if you make a video on Dendrobium orchid. Thanks

Hi.. yes..I will be uploading Dendrobium orchid repotting video next week, working on it.. When u receive a Dendrobium,let it acclimatize in ur climate atleast for 2-3weeks..by that time ur Dendrobium will be producing new growths ..when u see new growths,that is ideal time to repot..I personally don't like coco husk as a media because it may look bone dry from outside yet soggy inside...I always try to repot my dendros in charcoal, brick pieces and some leca/broken clay pot pieces...no need for moss in these 🙂👍

I just bought a phal which has a flower spike emerging , but it was potted in only spagnum moss in plastic pot. I couldn't stop myself to check the roots , so I took out the moss , found that many roots were yellow , and some had brownish black tips . I decided to repot in charcoal and did like you did . The doubt is will it abort the flower spike ? I am really worried as it is my first phal. Also I did not cut off the ligh green/ yellow roots as they were quite firm , did I do right?
