The airbag light will flash for 2.5 mins before it turns off it might come back on if you turn the ignition off before the airbag light turns off on its own like you did.

There's a slider switch on the OBD II plug. Make sure you have the right protocol selected.

No issues at all. If you are using the diagnostics for a while without the engine started, you simply run down the battery
