To recenter, from the View menu choose Frame Selected.
Rotate
Mouse: Middle mouse drag
Trackpad: Move with two fingers
Pan
Mouse: Shift + middle mouse drag
Trackpad: Shift + move with two fingers
Zoom
Mouse: Roll mouse scroll wheel up and down
Trackpad: Pinch or expand with two fingers

Hi when I do this it gets closer but still rotates a little off center for the object, how do you make the rotation point the same as the origin point of the object?

Perhaps you need to check what Pivot Point you are using during your transformation. Look for the icon to the right of the word "Global" at the top of the Blender interface.
