How to Reset your Xfinity Modem

If you are having trouble with your internet or telephone connection, resetting or rebooting your modem may be your first and best step to troubleshoot your issue. This video will show you how to reset or reboot your xFi Gateway Xfinity modem from the modem device itself.

Basically to reset your modem, look on the back side of your modem, pull out the power plug on the bottom of it where he has his fingers, wait about 10-15 seconds then plug it back in. Works for me every time and now you don't have to waste 4:35 of your life watching this video. Your welcome.

Seriously? 4 minutes and 35 seconds to say... Unplug power cord, wait 10 to 15 seconds and plug back in. Done. Reset Complete. It will take 4 to 8 minutes (depending) for your modem to fully reboot. "i would recommend turning off a lot of your internet devices before you do this, just to be safe" is bogus. there is ZERO risk to your devices doing this while they are connected... trust me.

Unplugging it does not reset, as it keeps the configuration, which just a reboot. A reset should clear any changes you have stored and "reset" to factory config.

A Reset will delete or clear any chanfes made to the startup file and l9ad the factory set startup config file. Very different from rebooting or unplugging. This is why the reset button is located in a way to prevent pushing it by accident and requires your deliverate action.

Edit: Make sure to HOLD the button for more than 5 seconds. That'll really factory reset it. Just pressing the button will reboot it. I held mine for like 20 seconds and then it brought me to the initial setup page for the router allowing me to recreate the SSID and password. And fixing all of my current issues. Mine didn't reset to factory settings when pressing it. I was hoping it'd fully reset it, disconnect every IP from the network reassigning them when they re-connect, and reset the rest of the settings. But for me the button just seemed to reboot the router which did fix another issue I had with not being able to connect to my default gateway, or it being extremely slugish.

You need to reactivate the modem through the xfinity xfi app. Resetting it clears it back to factory settings

The light needs to be a solid white on the moden for it to function. If it is still blinking orange there could be something going on making the modem offline. If this is your first time setting up your own internet xfinity offers a free recovery technician if you schedule the tech appointment yourself using the xfinity app!

The light is supposed to be white if you're receiving any signal. After unplugging the modem, then plugging it back in, the light will start out orange, then blink orange, then blink green, then turn all white afterwards. It happens when I reset my modem after the x1 system freezes up when it's not supposed to.
