How to Restart a Teams Live Event

Thank you SO much Microsoft. This only took like a year to roll out and it still is clunky. Just use Zoom. You just re-join the meeting if you leave. Great video John, Teams Live Events is just frustrating.

I always look forward to Teams Tips Tuesdays. Hopefully with many new features hitting recently(content camera, Q&A in webinars, word cloud polls, adding organizers for breakout rooms, etc), these will be coming out more often.

Thank you David! I have all of these on my list. I actually have a content capture video done already but am just waiting for it to hit general availability. I always wait until I see the feature in my Contoso tenant so I know I won’t break any NDA by releasing early. Unfortunately all the delays from Microsoft lead to gaps between videos. I have a goal to start making more smaller tip videos to release between those major ones we’re all waiting on. Thanks for watching!

Great explanation as always from John, even if the process isn't as simple as just a click of a button. Also a strong argument to use webinars rather than Teams Live where possible - my org is only 450 staff, with 150-200 joining staff briefings live - particularly now that moderated Q&A is available in meetings 👍

Hi John, I have the imprint teams is using an audio noise reduction filter when using obs as an external device. This this the case or am I missing something?

I’m not sure I totally understand your setup but yes Teams does apply noise reduction on whatever your microphone source is. You can turn off noise reduction in the device settings within the meeting though and that should help. Also I’d recommend looking at music mode in your meeting to get a less compressed sound. Hope that helps!

@@CollabMoore i’m using obs as an external device to stream to the teams meeting using the stream key that teams provides when starting a live event with external device. As such no webcam or audio is connected directly to the team meeting. So there are no settings in teans available.

Ah I see, I’m pretty sure RTMP-in doesn’t do any of the conferencing audio optimization (compression) that a normal call does. You might be best off engaging Microsoft support if it doesn’t sound as good as streaming to KZbin/Twitch/LinkedIn does. I’d expect the same quality as those platforms.

Let's face it, this accidental meeting's end is related to a bad user interface design Microsoft implemented here, so I hope they fix it soon simply by adding a confirmation/warning message (preferably as red, as the End button itself) before the actual meeting end is executed.
