This stuff absolutely works great. My in-laws wanted to get rid of there old cabinets, I asked them to let me try something and it worked out perfect and they were happy with the results...

This stuff is no joke! We purchased quite a few vintage and antiques this past year very cheaply. They all needed some help. I am overwhelmed at how they look before and after. I tried the restorer and then used pledge spray wax which didn't really last long. I decided I needed to wait and do both the restorer and the wax once I purchased the feed n wax. What a marvelous difference. Wish I could post pictures to show you. If you'll be patient and wait the required times you will love the end result! Thank you for making these 2 incredible and amazing products. It has saved us from having to refinish our pieces!

Fantastic product! I had kitchen cabinet handleless doors that had accumulated dark grease stains in the lower corners after 20 years. I cleaned them off using 1:1 dish washing liquid and baking soda. The finish came off with the embedded grease. I sanded the edge of the gloss to blend. I was able to restore the color with Howard's Restor A Finish. With the first coat, the color was a little light and a second application matched it perfectly. I applied gloss Urethane to bring back the final finish. It saved me the expense of having to have them refinished by removing, sanding the whole door and re-varnishing. Wiping down the surfaces with Howard's of all the doors removed splashes to make them look new again.

Three questions. Do you have to clean the wood first?If so, what type of cleaners would remove Pledge/dust build up in carved areas? Does this work over wood veneer?
@donelmore2540 Жыл бұрын
You should try to clean dust and loose dirt off first. You might try soaking a micro-fiber towel and then wringing it out well before wiping down the wood. Then use a dry towel to remove as much moisture as possible. Lastly, let the piece sit to completely allow any left over moisture to evaporate. If you are using OOOO steel wool for applying the Restor-a-Finish, it will also help removing any caked on dirt. You need to be a little careful with the OOOO steel wool to keep from stripping the original finish down to bare wood. Just this week I used these products on 3 antique tables and they turned out very nicely. Next, I’m going to use them on my matching pair of Stickley oak rockers.

Would the restor and finish cover up stenciled paint on a 1983 Hitchcock chair?
@donelmore2540 Жыл бұрын
I doubt that you’ll have much luck covering up a painted surface. Restor-a-Finish is NOT opaque so the paint will most likely show through. I just looked up your chair and think that taking off the stenciling will vastly reduce the value of your chair unless the stenciling is in very bad shape.

Can this work for lacquered wood?
@chaddsteinberg37582 жыл бұрын
No, Not on most of my antique and def not my mid century pieces (paint &/or lacquer finishes), just sits... what works is stain markers, better yet just save yourself money and buy a little can if your doing a entire piece. Only thing ever worked immediately with nice results was Olde English oil, it wears off after 3 weeks and I’ve heard ppl complain about stripping is harder afterwards.

try the poly and let us know, why you have to listen to them, because they want to sell their wax stuff that is why they say dont use poly. Surely not an atomic explosion will happen by trying.

It’s not a permanent stain, so the results won’t be permanent like a stain would. I think it’s similar to Old English scratch cover that contains a small amount of stain. Last night,I used this on a really old cabinet that belonged to my grandparents. It looks a thousand times better, but I fully expect to have to repeat this process every so often to keep it from fading back to what it was. If you were to put polyurethane on it, once it faded, you’d be stuck with it or stuck with a labor intensive project of removing the polyurethane to get the wood to accept more stain.
@MartinD9999 Жыл бұрын
@ Marco Grubert They also have an orange scented oil that can be used after these steps. It’s also meant for touch ups and to maintain the look.
