We will restore, repair and fine-tune this beautiful old sewing machine.
As we can see, it is a very rare machine, especially for its drawings.
It has the same format as a Wertheim Superba, by the transverse shuttle system and high arm. But the details with these angels, other figures in mother of pearl and especially the drawing of the lion and the Leo brand are what make it different.
After researching on it, it turns out that it is a Hengstenberg Robina that was manufactured around 1890. It has the badge of the agent Silberg of Hamburg, and although the lion was a common theme at the time, there are hardly any machines in the world, so That the owner has a small and heavy gem.
First we separate the wooden part, we see that it needs cleaning and varnishing, it also has woodworm holes, so we apply an anticarcoma liquid with a syringe and store it in a closed plastic bag for more than a month.
Meanwhile we work on the rest of the machine. We see that it is locked. First we apply oil to the lower and lateral machinery. We see that it begins to move and although it is still very hard, that is a good sign because it seems simple dirt and lack of grease.
We disassemble the bobbin charger, the crank and start with the exterior cleaning. Simply with soap and water applied with a brush and drying quickly. We must take special care not to spoil any drawing.
The chrome pieces are cleaned with a golden bristle brush and metal cleaner, it can also be done with a ceramic hob cleaner, only this spider a little more surface.
We are dismantling the principle of the arm, where are the bars of the needle, the foot of the presser foot, tension regulators, ... We clean the chrome parts, the cover inside and outside. We grease and reassemble. We repeat this process with the rest of the pieces that need it.
We ignite the black painted parts to give it a natural glow.
We clean the chromed parts with a metal cleaner and a cloth.
We disassemble, clean and reassemble the bobbin charger and also the crank.
After a month we took the wooden part out of the bag.
We fix the broken parts of the base with glue.
We clean the spots on the upper and lower parts with stripper and solvent.
We cover with wood putty the damages and the holes of woodworm.
Sand lightly and varnish.
We place the metal parts of the wood once clean. We put the machine in place and ... see that it works perfectly.
Let's do a sewing test with her.
Thank you!
