Very nice reels with big gears. I have one identical to that in every way . Some Newer Penn 85 models were made with an aluminum spool. For those who prefer aluminum over plastic which is a matter of preference. Thanks for all your videos very informative.

Thanks - I don't recall the aluminum spools. I have seen the spools swapped out with the 285 chrome ones. Thanks

I have that 85's twin down to the missing plating. All the parts fit so well that people just play with it and comment that it's like a watch.

This was the mainstay of the Penn inshore line for years. Many inshore charter boats are still using these today, even though the reel was discontinued in the 1980s! Now that is a testament to good design and parts availability.

Thanks for the videos, I trash picked 2 Penn Reels out of a dumpster, a Long Beach 60 and a Penn 85. They were attached to good fishing rods. I guess someone was moving or someone cleaned out their grandfather's belongings. I'll be referring to your videos again after I get some reel grease. Curious if you have a repair service in case I mess things up? Let us know who to contact you.

Another great tutorial! Do you have a link/pic of the dog spring installation? I cant get a good picture from your video. I just started rebuilding an 85 and my dog spring fell out and I am a bit confused on reinstalling it. Thanks
