A 500-year-old half-timbered house near Altenkirchen in the Westerwald. For a time, the building even housed a Thurn&Taxis postal station on the route between Frankfurt and Cologne. The new owners had a precious half-timbered wall restored by two specialists: By carpenter Jan Vockel and master mason Alexander Fenzke. Both have additional training as restorers in the trade. They first replace a rotten beam with another - which is also hundreds of years old. They rebuild the frames with historic building materials: With wickerwork and straw clay, with lime mortar and lime plaster. It takes six days for the 500-year-old wall to shine in new splendor.
