How to restore the lower control arms on Audi TT Mk1 or wishbones

So I decided to restore the lower control arms on Audi TT Mk1 as my bushes were shot and I need to repair and restore my lower front wishbones.
I bought a corroded set of control arms from a breakers yard and set about restoring the lower control arms in my shed.

Here I am removing the corrosion from the lower wishbone with a drill and wire brush as well as using a wire wheel and angle grinder.
I also treat rust on car components using kurust as you should always treat rusty metal before painting.
A video showing how to install new bushings without a press will be on the channel shortly.
I am pleased how they came out and I would appreciated your thoughts and comments on the technique.
The part numbers for the wishbones are:
8N0 407 165 - Left Control Arm
8N0 407 166 - Right Control Arm
The same arms fit both the 225 and 3.2 Audi TT mk1.

I built that table from scratch so technically, it’s mine to do as I want! However, I have been told it needs rubbing down and refinishing before Christmas dinner! 😂

I did this about six years back. I used powerflex poly bushes and cookbot audi tt inserts. Never had a problem. I used a 6t press from eBay which which I have used many times. Please bolt down the vice if that's what you have to use. Nice video.

Thanks very much Gary! Yes, I think the idea of a lighter coloured suspension is good for spotting rust. Plus it looks good when its been jetwashed! I intend on doing a full front suspension rebuild at some point.

Thanks Si! Even if someone is not comfortable fitting them, its worth picking a set and refurbing them at home. Then when you need them doing at the garage and they say "oh, we cant get them any more" you can say "Will these fine specimens do?".

well done well worth saving original parts rather than binning them, hope you didnt get told off my the other half for the paint on the kitchen table?

They sell the complete arm with ball joint for $60 usd. I feel like that’s better than rehabbing one

HaHa! Funny enough, she was away but I built the table out of joists anyhow! So I have a bit of "licence to do what I like" on it. It needs a refinish so a few more scratches and gouges will not hurt.🤣

OEM refurbished? Thats pretty good. Mine with the blood sweat and tears are £65!
