I came to Spain about thirty years ago for holiday breaks, we (my wife and I) enjoyed it so much we started to look seriously at the prospect of living here. With that in mind we made a list of pros 'n' cons then compered our lists.... We started by buying a holiday property that we used for about four years. What we thought was an appropriate juncture we made the move to live permanently in Spain.... This was over twenty years ago, pre Brexit so devoid of many of the problems now facing would-be immigrants. The rate of exchange was far better. To live here was a lot cheaper, and once the ''brits on holiday'' mode subsided we slipped slowly into ''Living in Spain'' our adopted country. Brexit has caused huge problems to do what we did. Being part of the EU did make things a lot easier, albeit with the usual red tape. Many Brits lived ''under the radar' so's to speak 'and voted Brexit'..(turkeys voting for Christmas)..believing nothing would change for them...that turned out to be a bad call....in fact they screwed it up for everyone wishing to live in España....

Don’t think I’ve seen a country shoot itself in the foot like this before. Thankfully I can get an Irish passport so that eliminates the terrible Brexit issues for me, but I feel terrible for other Brits, especially youngsters, who are now having major issues because of one terrible decision. 😢

Excellent video. Thank you. We are 66YO retired educators visiting Poland and Estonia after helping a new school open in Lviv. We are seriously thinking of selling our Portland condo and moving to Europe. Is renting a better option than owning a home for expats in Spain? We always wanted to own, but now it seems that putting the cash in CDs is wiser than purchasing a home. Plus the healthcare is better in Spain than in the US. Your thoughts? Dean & Cindy

hi, great video, my hubby and i had a holiday home and sold it last year due to restrictions of brexit, 90 day rule doesnt work when you want to spend winter in spain. so we are look at residency instead, but its now really complicated i am 54 and hubby 68 so he will get s1 not sure if i will, do you know if i need private healthcare due to my age. plus the income requirements are very high now for someone on pensions. i no longer work in uk and not pensionable age but need €7000 income, can i leave €7000 in an account as hubby has income. is it €7000 per year as ive read its 5 years so €35000 ? alternatively ive read about golden visa but to be honest i dont fancy spending that much money in spain as it’s difficult to sell, plus i heard its €500k each so for us €1million which is too much. plus you’ve not mentioned the driving licence situation , not being able to drive is a big no, so we are waiting for driving licences to be agreed and then hopefully be able to move. i appreciate any comments,or thoughts you may have. thanks.

thomas, unfortunately the answer is no, its 90 days and thats it. i signed a petition for 180 days instead of 90 as eu citizens coming to uk can have 180. its was looked at by parliament but it was rejected as its what the british public voted for. we had holiday home for 15 years but brexit ruined it as we went out for winter and now we cant. so now we are looking at residency instead, its our only option just waiting for driving licence fiasco to sort itself out.

Really enjoying the content of your videos. After taking early retirement 18 months ago, and with the “dust settling” post Brexit, we are considering a move abroad and Spain is our first consideration due to climate and ease of travel from the UK. Given the unpredictable outcome / impacts from the war in Ukraine, we don’t feel the time is right (at present) to “sell up” and buy a property in Spain however, we believe purchasing a relativity low cost apartment near the coast may be a good interim step and visit for the 2 x 90 periods. Have you any thoughts / advice on such a consideration?
