I love your videos. It focuses on one technique and it is well explained and shown. 😄

Thank you The slow motion and red circle (which demonstrates how the ball rolls) are very helpful

Haha, you posted this 12 days ago. I just encountered a player who slices a lot yesterday and was looking for this exact info!

Thanks Ed ! We all hate to return back slice, so moving back in the court and hitting topspin is a great tip!

I guessed top spin return. Thank you! Love how you shared your custom drill numbers for Slice. Awesome!

Ed very nice! I am a 5.0+ player and when I Ieach I tell people to to aim 12-18 inches higher when returning slice. I also return a lot of serves myself with a deep slice because it is so effective.

Slice return can always be a weapon, even in pro level. Just notice that these drives are relatively easy to volley for the players at the kitchen line, which means that the fifth shot can be tough. Best way to deal with slice return is to serve the ball as low as possible. The receiver can still return the ball with backspin, but the ball won't be nearly as freaky.

Good tutorial. But there’s a missing element: the low, fast laser like slice return. Those stick so low to the ground and skid off the bounce that you can’t by any means topspin them back. IMO that’s where you have to slice the slice return.

Yes I was hoping we would talk about those slice shots. Those are difficult to retuen
@adamheath459928 күн бұрын
Yeah you can, you just have to get lower and aim higher.
@ictkeith373027 күн бұрын
“Can’t by any means” ? You can Definitley still get top spin on them .
@smp31527 күн бұрын
@@adamheath4599 Agree. Stay low and ready. I also find returning those a little flatter helps keep the return low and deep back at them.

This! Thank you for posting this. There are too many people saying to use topspin on all slice returns when (for most players) it should really only be used for floaty slice returns. I use a slice drop (scoop-like motion using mainly the shoulder to lift the ball) on the low slice returns that skid and it's helped a ton hitting reliable 3rds. While it's possible to use topspin on the lower slice returns, I've found the scoop drop to be much more consistent and reduce unforced errors.

You can also hit your own slice/chop so you don't have to adjust your topspin swing higher. Go with the flow

I noted that there was a ping pong table in one of your video, and are you a table tennis player? Your topspin looks like a table tennis loop drive with weight shifting from low to high.

Nice, thanks, would you mind doing lesson on poaching? How far should net player go across of their partner stack at baseline? Are there rules of thumb for distinguishing ball hogging from useful pouching allowing baseline player to come to the net?

Great vid! Can you do one on how to return like a curve spin? Especially when someone serves this like a screwball serve
@Raymundo61928 күн бұрын
That one’s more about your positioning. I’d say hit a normal top spin-ish return. The key is to notice the side spin and get yourself in front of the ball to return it.

You didn't mention how to counter when the direction is to your backhand side. As one who don't have a good two handed backhand drive, I tend to just slice it back. Is there a way to counter a slice to the backhand with a single hand? Thanks.
@Pickapackofpickles23 күн бұрын
you still wanna go low to high with the paddle creating topspin on the backhand and its really hard to accomplish with one hand, if you are a righty practice the shot first with just your left hand because the left hand will do all the work when you use both hands the right is just there for guidance hope this helps
