Something I've noticed almost as an essential part of the revival that I did not see you mention until the end is cutting of the new growth that's on the plant- which is a big part of where the energy goes to. Rob The backyard Garderner grew watermelons this year and he noticed that one of his watermelon plants did not revive to a healthy state and it also happen to be the one that was still producing a watermelon.

I did a foliage purge this year on my zuchinni and what's amazing is that there are new stems coming off of it. instead of having one "vine", there is now four! and it looks like more keep growing. I've never seen this before.

Thanks Luke! We all have this at times! I'm glad to see your zucchini go 'walking' out of the bed too! One of my fellow community gardeners had 2 zucchini plants that lasted 12 months with our frost free winters-you can imagine how far away from the bed their stems got before powdery mildew finally claimed them! Thanks again!

I have just defoliated the powdery mildew leaves from my one thriving zuchinni plant and have sprayed with the solution that you recommended. Question---will the solution need to be re-applied from time to time, or is one time sufficient?

Useful tips. Pruned my squash/zucchini plant the other day (I'm not sure what said squash is as it came from seeds that grew from plants that grew last year, and while I'm sure Mom was a yellow squash, Daddy could have been a zucchini as that was growing right next to it) as I got a number of flowers on them, and I want the bees to pay a visit to them. Now to wait and see what happens.

You had a bad powdery mildew outbreak, usually you can nuke that with a potassium bicarbonate antifungal and then neem after. Minimal pruning to increase airflow, snd allow dry periods in between watering to disrupt fungal proliferation.

Thanks for the tips for diseased plants especially powdery mildew. Will keep for future reference as no p.m. in my garden this year. I've got lots of unripe tomatoes because our night time temperatures are often going below 10 Celsius which I think is less than 50F. Because the lows are not going to improve significantly, can I pick all the fruit and ripen inside even though they don't have any blush on them? Should I save any seeds from the heirlooms or should I wait for a better year of growth?

I've read that if a plant is sick and stressed (from environmental or biological stressors) then you should halt on fertilizing until it's improved and you see the first signs of new growth, otherwise you could risk further damaging it. Is this not ever the case?

One day things look great. Next day I have black and green aphids. My poor honeydew has been growing up a very tall trellis and over. Formed melons and then with the aphids some turning yellow. I sprayed with Neem oil as I try to be 100% organic. Should I remove the leaves that had the aphids on them? Aphids now dead. I understand ants bring in aphids. Set out ant traps too? Never saw where they came in. What should I feed it? Currently in last couple weeks got Trifecta and used it. Anything else? I hate to loose my honey dew melons.

It's surprising how a nearly dead plant can come back to life, I had a Peace Lily that a former cat of mine chomped to the stumps (amazingly, said cat lived, despite the plant being not very good for cats!), and that plant just burst back into life a couple weeks later and I'd put it out of reach of the cat, had that plant for several years, 'til I left it in the hands of the mother who forgot to water it and it died completely...........
