to people watching: Please don't do the little "splash" trick with the body board. It creases to bottom of the body boards making them less slick and harder to do real tricks with. Like spins and rolls and stuff that actually looks good. its a fun little confidence booster but please try not to do it too much.

Yes, Aaron is totally correct. Its actually even worse. Bodyboards have wooden rods inside them to provide support. Repeatedly bending the board will snap the rods, and they become no fun at all to ride. Actually, you can splash, but you have to be careful to pivot at the edge of the board and not bend it it the middle. Thanks, Aaron

I get asked this question so often by first timers and a lot of the tricks I do are way out of a first timers realm of possibilities lol Its nice that there are videos that break down the beginner motions of Flowboarding

I've been doing the flowrider in Houston for about 3 weeks I've been able to stand with just my feet and do flips on the board! This really helped me too, thank you Lou!

+YASH AGGARWAL - You can get private on group lessons and they are worth it. It's not so much that you need the instruction, as you need uninterrupted time on the wave. In a regular line, you try, then fall, then have to wait 20 to 30 minutes to ride again. By that time, your brain has forgotten most of what it learned in your fall. In a private lesson, you get to fall and learn and then try again right away. Group lessons can be good too if there aren't very many people in the group. Once you get past that initial learning, you can stand in line like everybody else.

I just tried surfing for the first time, a couple weeks ago. You know when you first come down the wave, and you gotta keep your nose up or you face plant? Its like that ALL the time in Flowboarding. A good rider keep the front of their board at least 4 inches out of the water at all times.

I have 20 training videos on a lot of tricks at FlowriderSchool.com. It usually takes several hours of time on the wave, before you can ride stand up. Be patient.

+hugo alexander - I want to make a video on this soon, but here are my thoughts. There is no "right" way to learn a shuv. Different people will give you different pointers, but you just have to try and try and try. I fell over 1,000 times before I landed my first shuv. After that, it took serveral months before I could land them pretty much on command. Here are my pointers: 1 - Practice on the carpet at home. If you don't have a board, make one for $40 with my other video. Practice for HOURS on the carpet. Get to where you can land them perfectly every time. 2 - Practice doing a "shuvit" with a deck of cards or a cell phone in your hand. You should be able to throw it up, have it spin and catch it PERFECTY, at exactly the right spot in your hand. This is not that easy. Some pros practice this way too. Believe it or not, your brain will translate that to real shuvs. 3 - On the wave, stand in on place, for 20 seconds or so. I think it is better to do this down in the flat part of the wave, so you don't have to worry about moving up or down. Focus intensely on your board and block out everything else, including the water. Say to yourself, "I am standing on carpet." several times and then throw your shuv. Fall, rinse, and repeat. Also, land on your feet, no matter what. Don't let yourself get scared and land on your butt. It takes a certain confidence. Your body wants to prepare to fall, but you have to convince it to prepare to land on the board, instead. The shuv is by FAR the hardest trick I have ever learned. You WILL get it. Don't give up.

Where are the jets located in this machine? And show large are the jets? They must be pretty large if that amount of water comes out, at that rate. Seriouslyyyy!! THAT IS A LOT of power!!! How do they drain the water?
@HowToLou
@HowToLou 5 жыл бұрын
There are two 140hp electric pumps that take water out of a tank under the ride and force it up the slope through two “jets” that are roughly 3 inches tall and 9 feet wide each. The water goes over the top of the slope and into a drain grate that leads back to the tank.

how strange here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada we start from the bottom.
@HowToLou

+Crazy Buttboarding Guy - Ours is split in half. The beginners all start from the bottom side. The advanced people all start from the top. I now run and jump in from the top to maximize my time on the wave. We get 90 seconds per person, and the timer keeps running, so getting on fast is important. Also, you usually get washed out at the top, so its good to be able to get back on from there.

The first flowrider was build in 1991 by surfer Tom Lochtefeld. Its actually more like wakeboarding or snowboarding with the ability to do skateboard tricks, like rail slides, shuvits, and kick flips.

Nice. I first learned about flowboarding on the Freedom. I have since been on Allure, Oasis, and I just got off the Independence. The best time to ride is early, at the 8:30 am session. It is great to meet and ride with other flowboarders.
