The park has remodelled Bonneville drop so it can now be ridden, nose down, on to the steep slab, with just a little bunny hop to get over the lip. Before, it was a full commitment, flat landing into that corner. I've done both and prefer to avoid landing to flat. Great tips from Mr.Payne, keep up the focus vids coming on technique.

drops are far easier, just have to have to proper speed and right balance on bike.

Drops - because I haven't learned to jump yet 😅
@Danielhobbies1505 ай бұрын
I've started learning jumps, smaller shark fins and table tops. I'll do some drops but there's some I haven't done yet😂 bigger drops can be intimidating 😂

Manualing off drops should not be a default technique for sure. It's good to have it your pocket just in case, but it is not what should be learned first. The proper and the most effective technique is similar to the one you've shown for advanced drops - go low with chest over your stem just before the edge and push the bike through to match your speed and the angle of the landing so you can land on your front wheel first to regain control and be ready for the next feature. BTW, dropping both heels is another bad advice - it moves your balance to the back which is not what you want by default - keep your feet in a wedge position (forward foot heel down, back foot heel slightly up) to set your weight balanced in a center of the bike.
@chadhopkins61415 ай бұрын
This is what I was thinking as well. The majority of people I hear from recommend the push technique to start since more can go wrong with the manual method such as mis-timing leading to the front wheel being even higher and coming down more aggressively. Also, I was advised that pushing gets the front wheel down sooner to allow for control/steering.
@jaad75625 ай бұрын
@SomeguysTrailrides no, it starts with getting low with your chest over the stem. The "wedge" position guarantees that your weight is centered - both heels down means your center of gravity moves to the back which is not what you want in that scenario.

I think Ryan Leech has the best terminology , on one end of the continuum there is a classic front wheel lift(cfwl) and on the other spectrum a full on manual, somewhere in the middle is the manual infused front wheel lift (mifwl) as far as i know , a few facts determines what where in the spectrum to use , like for example approaching speed, trail conditions, bumpiness, the angle of the take off and the landing . like if the approaching speed is comfortable to fast , you can just pre load off the drop (cfwl). if the approach speed is slow and somehow the runway is too short you can also preload off the drop as its very quick conversely if your approach speed is really slow then you would want to do a manual infused front lift , as this would keep the front up longer for the rear wheel to clear
@jaad75625 ай бұрын
@@letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoif your approaching speed is fast enough and the there is no additional gap to clear between the edge of the drop and the landing there's absolutely no need to preload nor to lift the front wheel at all. What you need is to push the bike through the edge of the drop and the only things that differ are the angle, speed and range of that push.

@@jaad7562 yes correct , that is something I didn't say for the sake of not complicating this discussion . What you're describing is simply an unweight

Great stuff 😬👍 trying to work up to regain my confidence after a massive downhill drop off OTB resulting in surgery for broken collarbone and thumb at Xmas, (wasn’t going fast enough 😂) have definitely lost confidence 😮 vids like this are really helpful 👍

Collarbone breaks ain't fun. Did that while skateboarding when I was 13. "Never skating again", and a few weeks later back on it before it had healed fully. Bad idea 😂 Hopefully you recovered well!

@@JamieR hah yeah famous last words 😝 I swore I’d never do drops again but now I’m healing I’m annoyed by being beaten coz I was doing quite well before that one lapse of concentration 🤦🏼♀️ hard lessons are the most valuable lessons tho right

Ugh yeah I broke mine in a motorcycle accident before and have a permanent unevenness where one sticks out lol. Be thankful tho because when ur collarbone breaks it saves ur neck from breaking that’s what it’s there for.

Will it be correct to say that manuals are essential? What I see most people try manuals looks short lift and hammering forward. I can imagine wrong lift make things worse ) I still pathetic lifting, I just afraid to hummer fork down after the age.
