How to ride the Shanghai subway

The Shanghai Metro is excellent. Used it during my last trip with great success. Very easy to use once you get the hang of it. If you've been on any other major metro/subway then you should have no problem. It's just like NYC, London, Tokyo, Paris etc.... The subways are very clean and efficient. Don't be afraid to try it out. Signage is in English everywhere.

I still don't understand how the tickets work when you load 10 onto a ticket. I took a ride. When i went to exit, it took my ticket and never returned it with less value.

@@85tkern you need to know which kind of ticket you use, if single ride ticket, you need to insert the ticket, the machine will receive the ticket and it can be rewrite and use again, if you use an metro card, when you exit the station, just tap the card same as enter, no need to insert

little tip: the ticket machine only approach 5,10,20 bills and coins. The service deck can help you change the larger bill

You follow the signs showing the number of the other line. How far it is depends on the station. Sometimes it is really close, less than one minute. For some big stations like People Square, it can be quite a walk. But the signs are very clear. No need to buy a new ticket either.

Honestyle its not strict at all. They just pretend to be strict. Most of the guys/girls sitting at the xray machines are playing with their phones and dont even care about it. When they look into your back they really just look, theres no searching (its pointless) and the metal dectors are just hold at random spots at your body. This isnt a security check, its a joke :D

If we take return ticket of maglav train we have to return after 1 trip at station exist or keep it for return journey.

I assume that you just swipe it (no inserting it) so that you keep it for the return trip. It is valid for 7 days.
