Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great and honest feedback. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. Yea, sometimes conveying info isn't super exciting, but I like to keep it simple, down-to-earth, and real. What you see is what you get, this is who I really am, just an average guy with a passion for fishing. Thanks again for the compliment. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a boat load for watching and leaving some stellar feedback. I truly and sincerely appreciate it. I really do try my hardest to keep things simple and down-to-earth. Fishing is supposed to be fun. We can easily over-think things and make stuff complicated. That's why I always find myself relying on basics and foundations. I truly believe, most things, when broken down to their most basic elements are not that overwhelming. Thanks again for your support of the channel, couldn't do this without you. I prefer the tail inline hook’s point to be pointed up (as opposed to pointing up towards the lures belly)-In my experience this gives a better hook up ratio

I'm really enjoying watching all your how to videos. Thank you for sharing all this information from your experiences. I really enjoy trolling from a kayak but can't reach the speed you talk about. What lures and rigs would you suggest for slower speeds and depths?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. I truly and sincerely appreciate it in your support for the channel. I understand your dilemma being in a kayak completely. Trolling can be quite difficult. The depth however I see guys off the deep legendary fall the time out and well over 300 ft. You just need an orange fluorescent flag so that you don't get run over. But speed is definitely an issue. Personally if you're really looking to do some trolling from a kayak I'd live bait something like a ballyhoo a goggle eye or a pilchard. If not I see those guys out there vertical jigging and slow pitch jigging all day. Hope this helps. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thank you Heath for this great episode. In your opinion would it be possible to add a # 8 or 12 planer and troll them in 60 to 90 feet of water targeting Grouper and other bottom fish?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. No, you can't trolling a diving lure on a planer. The resistance from the lure's drag through the water will trip the planer. Those bigger size planers will get you down deep enough to slow troll the reef for some nice grouper. I'd use ballyhoo as bait for them. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Great video. Do you exchange the hooks because of legality, the motion of the lure, or to not kill the fish?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. the hooks have nothing to do with legalities I just don't like treble hooks. also using the inline trolling hooks makes the mentos troll more streamlined less erratic and increase the hookup ratio. They're dangerous and they do major damage to fish if you want to release them. thanks again for your support of the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care.

Will that way also work for stripers here in California....I have sometime a issue with lure goin to ledt or right and not straight like it should be thanks
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it will work... it is an attractant so it's worth a try. If it's swimming to the side check the diving bill. They Crack sometimes. Also, the most common cause of side swimming is your leader is hung up on the front hook... this will come undone as you wind in and it pops out of the water
@michaelboater3545

Here in the California delta we drag a plastic worm attached to the rear hook. So I question the single hook. Also I tie directly to the line. No leader

Just curious. Why not just use or remove the split ring already attached to lure? My understanding is more hardware = less fish.does it make a difference?

Same speed between 4 and 6 knots... if you head offshore for pelagic, you can go faster 8 to 9 knots... just make sure you have it tied on good.

I am unable to produce any fish with this yet from trolling. I have it rig with 1ft small single strand wire,3ft monofilament and braid as my main line. Can someone explain what I am doing wrong?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and sharing. Part of the problem might be is that you are using braid line and a really short leader and then a wire leader. Keep in mind that fish can see stuff that looks unnatural especially braid and wire. Personally whenever I use braid as my main line I have at least a 35 ft long leader. Then you can attach wire. So you might want to try this approach it'll probably add a little bit more stealth to your setup and hopefully get you into the bite. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your supportive channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hello Heath, I appreciate your informative videos. Why do you add a second ring to the leader. Why not just connect the leader directly to the original ring? Thanks?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching asking you very question. the ring that comes attached to the lure from the factory is what is called a split ring it looks like a little miniature key ring. You don't want to tie your line directly to this it has a sharp edge where the wire of it wraps back around and forms the splits. that is why I tie a solid ring onto the end of my leader and attach it to the split ring that is on the lure. Hope this helps. thanks again for your support and to channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Is it good rule of thumb to remove treble hooks and replace them with the inline hooks? Thank you!
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks million for watching and asking a great question. I would say yes. When I get lures with trouble hooks I typically remove them and put on inline hooks. They are less dangerous. Make less noise in the water. And if you get a fish that you want to release they don't do life-threatening damage. Thanks again for your support channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, thanks for watching and sharing. Yes, the crystal minnows get wrecked over the reef. Sometimes the fish hit them so hard, they break off the little plastic lip that makes them dive. Good thing is, Yo-Zuri will replace them for free under their defect policy, as long as there is a million teeth marks in the lure. Thanks again for always being here to support the channel and make this happen. Happy 4th. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Heath, Great information, as usual. The Crystal Minnows are a really good lure. We use them in the surf for Striped Bass and Blue Fish, up in NJ. They have great action, so I'm sure they would work for almost any species. Trolling with them should work great. The single hook modification really helps when you unhook the fish. I used to cut one hook off the treble hooks and have only two points. It's a short cut to having the proper single hook set-up. Say "Hi" to the "Fish Slayer" and the "Fishing Girls" for me. Hope everyone's well. Have fun and good luck, Mickey

Hi Mickey, thanks for watching and sharing. You made me think about a time I was fishing with a buddy and he brought a couple of folks with him... One of his friends got hooked in one hand with the trailing treble hook, and while trying to yank it out, the other hand got hooked with the other hook. Treble hooks can be nasty. So I calmed him down, cut the hooks off the lure, and showed them how to use braid to snatch the hook out without damaging tissue and skin. Then we kept on fishing. If that guy was alone, it couldn't been real serious. I've trolled the crystal minnows for years, they are great for catching nice reef fish, especially mackerel. The little plastic lip can only take so much of a beating before it breaks off though, but Yo-Zuri is good with replacing them on a defect basis, as long as there aren't a million teeth marks in the lure. Everyone says "Hi Mickey". The Atlantic storm season is kicking in, that means good fishing in between them during the calm periods. Everyone here is doing well, hope the same on your end with your family. Talk to you Sunday. Take care :)

Hi Heath, We're all good here. Almost all of my hooks are barbless. I don't keep any fish to eat, so it's easier to unhook and release a fish with out using barbs. Hope you have a good 4th of July weekend and I'll talk to you on Sunday. Good luck and have fun, Mickey
