What do you put in it, is it just generic things or anything very specific that is a must have every time out on the water that you would recommend?
@jeremypierce16077 жыл бұрын
I know you mentioned your drift sock for slowing yourself down, but you can also use it to slow down a big fish by adding more drag if he's pulling the boat. A guy up in Mass was looking for a way to slow down big bluefins and that was my suggestion to him and not long after he was able to get a massive tuna on his kayak without getting pulled seven miles. My buddy in Florida has since used his to help with landing tarpon to keep from getting drug miles down the beach. they are really handy as long as you have it on short lines so that you don't get tangles if the fish doubles back on you.
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
+jeremy pierce great tip that I should have mentioned, I do that all the time. Even when I don't plan on using it to drift, I always have it offshore in case I hook a big shark or a marlin or something of that nature. Definitely requires some extra juggling though once the fish is close. At that time I try to pull it up if possible, but it isn't always.

Great video Rob. I'm new to yak fishing. I've watched this video a couple of times in the past three months, excellent. I lost a Gopro with the Railblaza, tough lesson learned about leashing everything; I checked the slip lock near the camera before going for the underwater shot, it was the second knuckle that was in the unlocked position, ouch. I've since leashed all the knuckles and Gopro attaching screw with zip ties. How do you ensure those locking clips on the Railblaza dont cause you to lose a Gopro?

Robert Field i have had a crappy year we lived in the city two weeks before we move to our new apartment in the burbs took family away camping while we was gone someone broke into our storage and took everything all my fishing gear rods reels everything even my new kayak i used couple of times. I have a wife and kids so it took me forever to get what i had . They even took a 8 dollar bait bucket i have been saving for a bit for my first kayak. When i got out there in the kayak fishing it was like everything in life disappears for the couple of hours i was out there used it 3 times now i have to start over. Oh, the Ambush Tackle Bag. No, they won't both fit. The Livewell takes up most of the tankwell in the Outback and Revo. I can barely jam my Bison Cooler Soft Pak into the space between. There's some space behind the livewell but hard to reach and definitely not enough for the Ambush.

@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
+Finna Fish haha being offshore is totally safe as long as you take precautions and always go with a buddy. But flipping is always a possibility in lakes and rivers too. The key is to just be prepared for it. In episode 9 one of my companions flips in the Columbia River
@finnafishfl7 жыл бұрын
Robert Field Completely not for me to be honest. Im actually going to start kayak fishing for fish that live in backwater scenarios. Mostly small river/creek fishing. I may also use it to target some decent crappie and Catfish and for some inshore saltwater stuff. Its more about the gear I use and going through the waves.

Nice, great episode. I'm obviously just starting out filming so this actually helps alot with how to rig camera booms et cetra. I was thinking about wasp cams rigged with their waterproof power cords running to a dedicated battery source, but I'm thinking that would rule out the ability to swing the camera boom. Just curious what's the battery run time/management like with Gopros? Meaning how often do you have to change out batteries?
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
I know some guys that hard wire 'em. GoPros too, you just have to DIY the case a bit. Not the new Hero 5 though. Batteries last maybe 90 minutes of filming. I buy some extended battery backs that last 6 hours. Search Amazon for re-fuel gopro and you'll find em. Only for Hero 3/4 though.

Hi Robert, I am just starting to review and research ocean fishing kayaks and so far the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 is my favorite for many reasons. I have a lifetime of inshore and offshore fishing experience and kayak fishing experience as well but I haven't yet tried to fish the ocean in one. I will be fishing the east coast of Florida and putting in at the beach. I would like to know your thoughts about this yak and if you think it would be good for my mission or if you would recommend something else. Thanks!

I think the Hobie Outback is better for offshore, but the PA is great for inshore. It will do okay offshore as long as it’s not too rough and the surf isn’t too bad.

There are so many good and bad reviews. Its hard to decide. Did a recent offshore trip without one and saw how fast it can go from glass to choppy. And decided I needed to make that purchase before venturing out offshore again. Also and this may be a mute point as I have just about talked myself into an Outback. But what is the purpose of a rudder in a fishing paddle kayak? I mean I can maneuver the kayak fine. But when I stop to fish the wind blows me around and I loose position. Will a rudder keep me straight Or straighter. Currently using a cuda 12.

+S Stone hey man, good stuff. A VHF radio is a MUST offshore and I was kicking myself when I realized I forgot to talk about it much. Cobra and Uniden are good brands. There's a link to the one I currently own in the description of this bio. Basically I stick to the $50-60 range but they tend to die every couple years. I'm not great about maintaining my stuff tho so probably my fault. For the Outback you have to have a rudder to steer with pedals. On a paddle kayak like the Cuda, it will help you turn tighter.

Enjoyed the presentation. I am planning on getting a Sony 6500 with IS soon. Liked your advice on the case. Will be getting a Hobie Revolution. Do you have an issue with H Rails? Also I always have a bait tank. How can you square that with your soft waterproof storage bag?
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
The 6500 is a great camera. Nope the H Rails are great. That soft pak is a cooler, it's not waterproof. But the front hatch is a perfect place for drybags.

Really? How'd it happen? One of the ones in this video is 4 years old and barely looks used at all.

When using the GoPro on the ActionHat, do you use the skeleton case to get the best audio? Or are you running the waterproof case and the proximity to your lips smacking allows for such good audio? As always, thanks for the quality content and ability to form long string, coherent sentences - its not easy.

+Tim Ward haha I like "One Take Jake"d this whole video as fast as possible because it was HOT. I was sweating profusely by the end of it. I typically run the Hero 4 on my head with the waterproof soft plastic back. It's not waterproof very deep but if my head is deep underwater, something is very wrong haha. The Hero 5 also has much improved audio which would be good for the ActionHat.

I have a question about your Lowrance depth finder. I currently have the Hook 7 on my bass boat, and want to put it on my kayak also when using it. What happens if you take a swim and the unit gets submerged long enough to get back upright? Great channel! Subscribed!!
@YakFishField6 жыл бұрын
They should hold up to being submerged just fine. Shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds or so to get her righted. But they’re all sealed units so they should be fine unless you leave them under for a while.

Ok, so this is likely 2 years late but thanks for this video. I'm wondering how you (1) sync the footage between your multiple GoPro's if you're using the audio from your hat cam (explained in another video), and (2) your editing process and the software tools you use for that?
@YakFishField5 жыл бұрын
I use Adobe Premiere and you can use the Synchronize feature to line up different clips in time based on audio

Robert can you do a video on everything you need after purchasing a kayak like a scupper plug
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
Well man it's really a personal choice for a lot of that. To use your example, I never use scupper plugs. But plenty of guys do. It'd be hard to go into THAT many details without it being an hour long video. I can definitely do another one for, say, freshwater instead of offshore. Show some different products I use. I'll think about it some more.

This is a very informative video! Just curious why you fish the Outback over the PA? I'm trying to decide for myself. Hope you and your family is safe in Texas!
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
+Michael I fish a wide variety of bodies of water and conditions, and I think the Outback is more versatile. I can paddle it in shallow water if I need to. I can also carry it by myself when necessary and can car-top it when I need to. It's also just less expensive. The PA is a great boat but it struggles in shallow water and in the surf. I also prefer the Outback's handling on rough days offshore. But barring those situations, the PA is the Cadillac of yaks and much more roomy than the Outback.

Another great video man! Keep them coming. I want to buy The Rail Blaza Camera mount but I had a quick question , what rail blaza base mount (that I screw into my outback) allows you to swivel the camera like that?
@YakFishField7 жыл бұрын
They all do. I like the Starport HD because it's sturdier, so your boom stays firm. Use code field1720 to get a discount on Railblaza stuff at www.yak-gear.com
