Thank you for taking the time to educate us on avocados keeping them fresh and using them wisely they're a wonderful thing if you're on the keto diet but they are very delicious. If you have any recipes other than guacamole please post them on your blog I think people will enjoy them. As far as keeping them completely looking good after you cut them what if you submerse them in water. I do that with my brillo pads I keep them in water so that the oxygen cannot get to them and they last a long time before they rust. Anyway keep the videos coming they're great and thank you

I KNOW this is unconventional but I keep my guac very simple: avocado, salt, lime juice and EVOO….yes extra virgin olive oil adds creaminess that is fabulous. IF I am making ahead of time, I put very little evoo in the mash up process, and add a layer of evoo over the top before I cover. This can keep guac good for DAYS! It keeps oxidation from turning brown. So if you find yourself with multiple avocados ripe at once, go ahead and mash them up with salt, lime juice and a little evoo. Place this in plastic sealable container, smooth the top and make it level. Then add a layer of evoo on top before converting and refrigerating. You’re welcome! 👊🏻 🥑 Have to figure out when I can come down and learn to graft!! Thanks for the great videos. Just got back from Bahamas where avocados grow wild and I’m obsessed with learning to grow!

We Use Avocado's to tenderize the toughest Meats. Bad cut of meat? Blend a few spoon full of ripen avocado and apply generously to meat. Place meat in zip lock bag and sit in fridge for 20 minutes. Its enzyme's will break down sinew and fat. At the 18 minute Mark preheat cast Iron skillet and 2 table spoons of oil. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and sear on each side for a few minutes. Let rest a few minutes and enjoy! Super tender. Pro tip on meat! NEVER place any meat in a refrigerator that shows blood pooling. You must paper towel dry it! Meat last longer. Place dried meat in zip lock bag with a sprinkling of sea salt. Be sure you put a clean dry paper towel on the bottom of the bag and place your meat on top. If you ever buy meat and it turns brown and spoils fast now you know why and how to prevent it making your $$$ last longer and less waste! My dad was a butcher. Love my dad! PS Never ever leave avocado on meat longer then 20 minutes! Turn to mush. Unless you like baby food and drinking meat through a straw! =P Thought you should know! Some people need further explanations some times.

Thank You for being so informative!!! One way I've found to keep my cut avocado's from browning, has been to wrap securely in cling wrap...then submerge the cut half in cold water and refrigerate. Works like a charm!! Same with the whole avocado's! I've placed them in a container, covered them completely with water and refrigerated. I've kept them up to a week, sometimes 2, without going bad.

I learned a trick from an Indian chef in regard to freezing curry leaves which works with many different types of produce in the refrigerator or the freezer. You place them in a plastic bag of the ziploc variety (although you can do it with other plastic bags), close the bag almost all the way, and then insert a drinking straw. Use the straw to suck the air out of the bag, which you can see happening as the bag shrinks around whatever you've put inside it, then quickly withdraw the straw and seal the bag closed. That kept the curry leaves green after I put them in the freezer and they're still green and not freezer- burned after what's more than a year, maybe more than two. That was the intent of the instruction I found online, as I had purchased a relatively large bag of curry leaves at an Indian grocery and didn't want them to rot or turn brown. I've used this technique to keep cut apples, pears, peaches, and plums from browning when stored in the refrigerator overnight, as well as for half avocados and many different types of produce for which part of it is left over after you cut off what you want to eat at the time. I observe one caution as I reuse plastic bags and haven't bought any new ones in decades, so I do need to pay attention as to whether the bag is actually vacuum-sealed. If not, I switch it out for a newer one which doesn't leak air. But people are forever giving me things in ziploc bags so it's not that hard to maintain a supply of bags which are intact and don't leak air. That way, I repurpose and reuse plastic bags rather than buying brand-new plastic bags or plastic wrap. Just sayin'..... If you don't know where plastic bags come from or what a problem single-use plastic has become, please do your research and reduce your use of virgin plastic. I thank you and the planet along with its creatures including Homo sapiens will thank you. 💚 I hope this information is useful to someone out there. 💚

Thanks for this great information! Much as I wish I could, I'm not sure I can grow an avocado tree here in the coastal Florida Panhandle where the temperature occasionally dips below freezing, but I've planted a Hass avocado pit and then let it root in H2O for too long twice, so I've never actually tried. Yikes! But what I really wanted to say is that I appreciate the information about knowing when a Florida avocado is ripe. They only occasionally show up at the Piggly Wiggly in Apalachicola where I live, and I've never had great success with them. Each time, they were hard as a brick and then seemingly in the blink of an eye were rotten. So disappointing! I purchased one at the 🐷 in Port St. Joe today and I'm hoping that by following your instructions, I'll be able to eat a delicious Florida avocado rather than composting it because it's rotten! I have saved so much money since I found that trick last year! I buy the Costco bag, while I still have a couple avocados at home about ready for eating, and I make sure the new batch are all firm. I clean them with vinegar/water or water/bleach solution let them dry and put them in the fridge that day - sometimes in a paper bag. 1-1.5 days before I'm ready to eat one I'll put it on the counter. It is perfect! If it's still feels like it won't be ready the next day I'll put it in a small paper bag and keep on counter and the next day it is ready. Also, I've tried all three of your techniques to keep avocados from getting brown. I found the best - for me - is to put a half of a paper towel over it and lay it cut side down on the counter. The next day it's perfect and sometimes I just have to barely skim the top with a sharp knife to get the top layer off and it's good to eat. Voila! Thank you for your videos! I see you have one on mangos. Oh my, guess I'm not going to get any sleep tonight! ; )

Helen, Avocados are amazing. There are over 900 varieties of all shapes, sizes and colors. One of my varieties grows over 3lbs. I love you Australians, very avid gardeners! Thanks for reaching out.

Very good info, one question: When left on the tree, do they fall before they rot or does the seed start to grow as in mangrove?
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
they fall first. sometimes I find a seed sprouting inside the fruit through

From South Africa. Wrapping green avo's in newspaper and putting them in a cupboard increases the speed of ripening more than leaving them on the counter. Well, that's what we have always done would be interesting to see a test of that theory.
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
this vid teaches how to stagger the ripening so they don't all ripen on the same day

... Thank you very much ! I live on an island in the north of Brazil and we have loads of avocados, and a kid brought a bag of ten the other day and I only bought 5 because I thought they would all ripen together and I would have to OD on them ! Chris.

I put a straw into the avo hollow and suck out the air getting the cling wrap to seal nice and tight pulling the straw out slowly. works even better.

I get so tierd of opening my avacodos and there are brown / black lines all thru the fruit, why does this happen

Did you know you could take a ripe avocado, not rotten, mash it up with some lemon juice and put it in the freezer and freeze it. I freeze bananas this way too. Then I put them in my dessert machine and make ice cream out of them after they're frozen.
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
I’ve done that with bananas but I’ve never tried it with Avocado I’m gonna have to try that thank you

Wow those avocados are huge!!! We don't get them that big in New Zealand!! Do you sell any avocado tree branch for grafting?
@SleepyLizard3 жыл бұрын
Ben, yes I do sell scion wood at www.guacfarm.com but I don't ship outside the US because each country has regulations on importation of agricultural products and don't want the package to be interdicted and destroyed.
