3.5e ❤ Been playing since 2015ish, started in 4th but quickly upgraded to 3.5e and never turned back. We run it biweekly at the moment. Nobody at our table likes 5th edition.

It sounds like you run a table with exceptional taste! :) Hated 4th and don't care for 5th myself, but as I have said many times, it ALL depends on what makes the group happy and have fun. That is the whole point.

Turns I have a co-worker who dm's and some Critter co-workers He wants to run a D&D campaign in 3.5e. Gotta say, I found this helpful as to what I'm getting into, being that my first game was 5e.
@jovankabroz68585 ай бұрын
As someone who really only played a couple of 5e one shots (most of them not even completed), I found this video really helpful. I live somewhere where D&D isn't popular and the closest board game club which specializes in D&D is 300km away! So just grasping the basics of D&D can be hard, especially when the books are expensive as hell and hard to find even in the neighbouring countries. D&D 3.5e has some very complex character creating rules, and this video made it much easier to understand. Thanks!

Thank you very much for the wonderful feedback! Very much appreciated. :) If you are really wanting to play with a group, I might be able to put you in touch with some online gamers who love new players. If you have discord and steam, there is a virtual tabletop game that the folks I know game with people from all over the world.
@jovankabroz68585 ай бұрын
@@DwarvenTavernI really appreciate that but no thanks. The thing about not finding enough people wasn't really a complaint, since there is a board game club which plays D&D near me, however i don't get enough time for it because of school and stuff :) , tho I have heard about sites like Roll20 and Table Top Simulator. Edit: By the way, I thought that this was a channel with hundreds of thousands of subs, but wow, you guys are underrated! Keep up the good work.

I imagine rolling like that must come up with some impressive builds. But sometimes it's fun to have flaws in the build with some low stats.
@DwarvenTavern5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! In general, high stat averages are better in my usual campaigns because of the challenges the players face. There have been many occasions in which the players are intentionally given flaw as you suggested, to provide a special challenge. Good call. :)

I always give one stat below ten regardless of what I roll.
@yuyu632 жыл бұрын
the idea of 3.5 was that the PCs are the cream of the crop. There is a point in the DMG that says if a player's total modifier is+2 or less between all stats you should let the player reroll all stats. Obviously this method is crazy strong but it still is just a high power method

How do I figure out my Misc Modifier, Temp. Modifier, Misc Penalties and Misc Bonus?
@DwarvenTavern5 ай бұрын
Those modifiers are based on the context and situation and are given as they occur, like a potion for combat bonuses, or a magic item that buffs your Dex score while you're wearing it. All of that is up to the DM when you're playing. :) Cheers!

You fall unconscious at -1 Hp, at 0 Hp you are still conscious and capable of limited movements and actions ( you can drink a potion) at -1 hp you fall unconscious and must make several Stabilization checks to stop losing 1hp per round until -10 when you die.

I've resolved to think of 3.5 as now just my official "miniatures-focused D&D"/D&D "tactics", sort of like your Final Fantasy: Tactics to your default Final Fantasy game. 3.5 had the Chainmail/Miniatures Game embedded within it for a reason. I'll never attempt play it over webcam, but it's the kind of D&D I'm open to playing at a grid-covered table, with lots of minis, with a gameplay focused on [and taking your time with] combat and the perhaps deeper intricacies dungeon-delving (lots of traps, etc.). I think that's the kind of game that plays to its strengths... in comparison to 5e, which is just a better default for fantasy roleplaying.
@DwarvenTavern4 жыл бұрын
Mini play is perfectly valid as either an addition or an alternative to the game. One of the things that make it so nice is that it can be tailored to the playing style. I prefer the role playing aspects of the game embellished with the presence of minis for visual aid to a combat scene. So when the going gets tough, the minis come out. :)

This is a good video but unfortunately the most important part for a magical class is completely skipped over? =/ Given mage-type classes are just as popular as any other and 7 out of the 11 *original* D&D 3.5 classes used spells to some degree I think that it's quite an oversight
@DwarvenTavern7 жыл бұрын
The reason I didn't cover magic (or familiars, or psionics, etc) was because they are character-specific traits and I wanted this video to be an overall glimpse instead of an extremely in-depth guide; and also because magic and all of the other stuff I didn't cover can and should be a video all unto its own. Granted, I should have already done that video, but the choice to not include it wasn't because I didn't think it was important. And while 7 of the 11 standard classes DO indeed use magic, they all have very different rules on the magic they use. So again, I believe a separate video should be made for magic all to itself. What's more, the proper person to do the magic video would not be me, but rather Taverneer Jeff, as he knows the ins and outs of magic use far better than I. Sorry this was such a long reply! Thank you for your insight! And maybe we'll get that darned magic video afore much longer :) -Lyric

1st reaction: Excuse you, do you thing that you are inherently better or something? Or are you a LARPer where stats don't matter cause if so you still don't have the right to implicit insult to anyone here as you lack any balancing in that system(if there is one) regardless, if not 1: Then why bother commenting 2: A game without stats or(Note that or it's very important) wining conditions isn't a game, it's just goofing around.

so do I roll for fort and stuff to?
@DwarvenTavern7 жыл бұрын
For fort, ref, and will, it's listed out in the table under your character's chosen class. those numbers in that table go under 'base save', then fort gets the con mod, ref gets dex mod, and will gets wis mod respectively. that should give you the basic fort, ref, and will saves, unless you have other additions according to your custom character. Hope that helps! (short answer: no, you don't roll for those saves; you use the modifiers from your previously rolled dice!) -Lyric
