How to Root Pixel 5 Unlock Bootloader and Pass SafetyNet

question, can you unlock the bootloader without going to "developer options" and enable "OEM unlocking" ? because my phone is stuck in fastboot mode & the command "fastboot flashing unlock" on CMD won't work because I haven't previously enabled that "OEM unlocking" setting (the phone got in this state out of nowhere, a security patch randomly updated & this happened, yes, just like if google killed it on purpose).

Thanks! I've been rooting my phones for over a decade and the instructions posted on XDA become more and more convoluted as time goes on. It could be as easy as installing an app or as complicated as an LG V30 with flashing all kinds of shit and the instructions are unintelligible. I was still able to pass safetynet with this procedure. I read on XDA that there were issues a few months back.

If you get an error like "failed to write partition not found" use these commands instead: fastboot flash boot_a namefile.img or fastboot flash boot_b namefile.img

tried both and still no dice. luckily i was able to flash stock boot.img back so i could reboot my device. did they change something to patch this method, and would the method on xda site be working?

I tried your process step for step and it's not sticking for some reason once I flash the patched boot file and reboot I open magisk and it still says install as well as the su and modules are still grayed out any help is appreciated friend

Heya, following the video step by step and great so far but.. when I get to the point of downloading "Magisk Manager Canary" the link you listed is a file that's 3mb but the one you drag over is 9mb, I try use the file you linked and it asked me to update before using, I did that and even after that point it's a different build to yours, I try to install the patch file with the boot.img and it fails the last step of repacking the boot image "unable to repack boot image". Is the Magisk canary APK definitely the same one from the vid? doesnt seem to work :/ thanks

Managed to get it working after I went looking for the same file you had, the one linked is definitely not the same one though :/ had to uninstall that and install one directly from the magisk github, awesome video though!

If the phone is now recognized as Pixel 3a, that means that it does not longer qualify for unlimited Google Photos uploads that Pixel 5 does. Can someone test this?

OK, so I made it to step 8 with a google pixel 5a... and now the phone won't go beyond the fastboot mode screen. I can hit "start" for power or change to recovery, power off, rescue mode, recovery mode, restart bootloader with volume rockers but all entries return to "START". Does this mean that I bricked my phone? I tried to reflash the original boot.img at it says OK and OK and finished but does not revert back to anything again.

I'm rooted with lineage os 18.1. Glad I got pixel over Samsung. Samsung locks their bootloaders to the core with snapdragon models.

Rooting shouldn't effect your camera but if it does just unroot it with magisk manager.
