How to route out GGD in Kontakt 7

We've got some questions about how to route GGD libraries in Kontakt 7 - so Joe has sat down to walk you through the process. In this tutorial he showes you how to route individual channels out of our libraries and how to set up a preset so you don't need to do it ever again!

Anyone coming here lately might be confused about where to find the crucial "outputs" section of Kontakt 7. I think the software might have just updated recently because I couldn't find the icons referenced in the first couple minutes of the video. If you have Kontakt Player 7 open with the drumkit and click "View" and then "Rack view" it will switch to the format indicated in the video. Clicking "view" again will reveal the option to show the "output" section.

Tried this yesterday with MixWave. I have done this multiple times in various drum programs. Kontakt is by far the least user-friendly. Had to solve like 4-5 problems before I got it to work. Not your fault in GGD of course. Just incredible unintuitive in Kontakt (even had you stumbled for a moment - I mean who knows to click the ! in that situation). Anyway - thanks for the video. Very helpful.

I would love to see GGD move away from Kontakt, to have more flexibility to be able to do things with a host of their own. The cumbersomeness of setting up a multi-out in kontakt, is one of many reasons... A revamped and more homogeneous GUI for all their libraries, as well as a MIDI Grooves bank for all of them. I think this would be the next big step, I know it's a big investment to develop your own software, but I think it's worth it. Go for it GGD!!!!

Finally was able to get everything routed, but from what I see the OKW Architects doesn't have the options to do snare top/bottom.

GGD's team should "go crazy" and invest to develop their own Host, this way they would avoid many problems that kontakt has, being able to make something more personalized, simple and adapted to the needs and characteristics of a virtual drummer software.

hey hey, thanks for this video. I'm wondering. I see on all kontakt routing videos that people route mono mics (for example snare top) to a stereo output and onto a stereo track in the DAW. Why is that? Does it help in some way or maybe it just doesnt matter? Can't seem to find the answer for this. Cheers

Pro Tools Users - If you cant change the outputs in Kontakt on the individual pieces (Kick/Snare/Room mono/etc. outputs only have St.1 Option) save once you've added and named the outputs in Kontakt, and restart pro tools. You should be able to change the outputs for each piece. It doesn't update until you restart (Gotta love pro tools)

Im using GGD One Kit Wonder and i dont have the options for each piece of the drums. For example, i can only send the snare to one track, i dont have snare top, bottom, OH, and room. I just have a single slider per. Any help?

Even after following this video exactly, all of my drums are going through the first output (kick channel) as well as their respective channels. This also happened when following all the old tutorials. I guess I can just start with kick on output 2 and mute output 1? It's annoying though. Do I need to fix routing somewhere else?

@@iplayzdrumz I had the same issue - try resetting the outputs to a factory preset first (for ex stereo 16x), and then follow the steps that Joe gives to make a default configuration. This got rid of my extra 1/2 that was showing up and now all of my outputs are looking delicious. Let me know if this helps

followed everything step by step all of my outputs in kontakt show up but in logic all the drums are still only one one channel even with multiple output channels open the routing from inside kontakt works perfectly but cant seem to get it to work in logic any help?

Anybody know how to reset the outputs to default? I can't seem to create 10 outputs from St1 to St10 and the 4 aux outputs like in this video. Mine starts with st1/2, then goes to st2 (Neither of which are connected to a plug in output), then st3/4, st 5/6, st 7/8. Really confusing I just need to reset it but can't find out anywhere how to :(

Guys are the Cymbals not single miced, only via Overheads? I use the Matt Halpern. And Cymbal 1 and 2 are just audible via overhead. Only Cymbal 3 has a separate mic channel + overhead. And you routed the snare reverb effect wrongly. And I can't change that. Reverb FX from the snare comes always with the Kick channel

I followed this exactly, but once it came to clicking the exclamation mark to rescan the outputs, Invasion was no longer working. I get no sound from clicking the kit pieces. After clicking the exclamation marker it never loaded the kit again? I'm so lost on this lol.

Question/problem/misunderstanding: I think I've done all this correctly, and it works just like Joe explains it 👍. However, when in the main window (arrangement/tracks view/non-mixer view), the Track Header Components only apply to the first channel in the stack - since I set mine up like Joe's, the kick. Ex. The M and S buttons only mute and solo the kick, respectively, and have no effect on any of the other pieces of the drum kit. In this scenario, the only way I can solo the drums, is to pull up the mixer view, and multi-select the kick and it's subsequent 16 stereo pairs of outputs, and then click the S on one of the selected tracks. I'm missing something, right?

So that routing menu provides some routing presets - selecting one will assign each channel to an output automatically. I personally like routing my channels slightly differently to those presets, so left it as stereo then went and created/selected my own outputs! - Joe

PLEASE HELP. I noticed that we are routing the kick into a STEREO output. From my understanding, kick drums are typically mixed in MONO. Is this something you change later when preparing for a mixdown or is this something I should be addressing while writing? Or does this not matter because the stereo channel/track will just be mirror images of eachother essentially dual mono? Sorry I know its a lot of questions but I want to take these routed channels and pepare them for a mix and that results in my kick being a stereo file and my references of a professional stems have the kick in mono..

It is mostly fine. However when you are adding stereo effects in your DAW on channels where mono would be "enough" you are using a bit more CPU.

In order to use GGD P5 you have to be updated to Kontakt 7. It's seems a little smoother than Kontakt 5 and 6 in general.

Indeed! To load PV you'll need Kontakt 7/7 Player. There are some new features in Kontakt 7/7 Player but they don't really effect our libraries.

I'm having trouble navigating Kontakt itself. That display in Kontakt with all the outputs with their dropdown menus at 2:20 I can't seem to find. Is there a way to access it?

Open the instrument. Right where it says Kontakt Player, click the Minimize option. It will switch to a different view. Now if you click Workplace Management, the Outputs will be there.

It turns out, it was in the "minimized" browser by default. As soon as I switched to the maximized browser by clicking the icon with two squares on the right, I was able to see Outputs and more options.

I keep getting stuck at the end, once ive labelled all the outputs I can't see them in GGD, so I click the ! but it just says ....Loading on the screen and I have to close everything and restart again each time. Any suggestions, I'm using GGD M&M, K7 a brand new M3 Mac, 18gb Ram so defo enough power I think.

Extra bit now, ive managed to do a straight run through, but now when I select Snare to route the outputs, it still shows the Kick ones, it won't change over??? Is this just K7 or a GGD issue?

update: it when renaming the outputs, I started doing one-by-one and got to about 7th down the line and that's when it froze. Must be something to do with that.

I just purchased my fist ggd plugin and I've been struggling!!! is there any videos that discuss "choking cymbals" features. I have a Roland td27 with cymbal choking capability but I lost that feature with using ggd. Id love to get that feature back on my edit @getgooddrums
