Hi Jonathan, I have been playing poker for 16 years now and always thought I was pretty good. I never have studied Poker like I am now though thanks to your videos and classes. It has had an immediate effect on my MTT game and now the thought of going pro one day seems a lot more attainable now. Last Sunday, I got 2nd place in the 200k guaranteed tournament on Ignition, and took home 21 grand!!! My biggest win by far. Finished 10th out of 110+ players, I had 10bb with JTs and ripped it all in based on gto, big blind(chip leader) called with Q8s, and that was my final hand. (This was a bounty knockout tournament on pokerstars)

Do not be afraid to go for it, best advice I got in a long time. Had a few deepruns recently. E.g. Finished 14th of 1700 last week and felt good about it at first, but was way to afraid and didn't cash nearly as much as I could have with fearlessness. Let's get hardcore now and ship

Brilliant content Jonathan from over here in the UK. I have been playing poker since 2004 and used to do ok back in 2006 and the poker boom era. However I have had to admit to myself that I have been losing alot of money playing poker over the last 10 years and am not quite the player that I thought I was. Part of the problem is I dont have any friends close by who also play the game that I can work on improving my game with. However I still love the game and believe I can turn it around with plenty of study and your coaching. I joined poker coaching this week for the year and will hopefully get enough funds eventually to go premium. The way I see it now is you are my personal coach. It is my dream to become one of the best players in the world and I still believe I can do it.

Great commentary and coaching - super helpful. The Q/8 hand vs the "that guy" ... I was with you the entire hand: call/call/call - let him build that pot and don't scare him off, that is the play. But mostly because of that player's tendencies - we know this player, right? How about raising early, ending the hand and not giving him anymore opportunities to hit on the turn or river. You'll probably say, hey thats poker and you'll win most of those. I' m just sayin, he COULD have a hand. But that's poker, haha. Cheers, dude

On the turn, if it's a K instead of a Q, are you still calling the pot bet with your second pair, assuming your opponent is going to barrel almost any high card? Where do you usually draw the line vs players like this?

For the first example, with q8, on the flop you can check or also reraise. If you reraise it shouldn’t be huge (because you don’t want to tighten his range to only hands that are beating you but you want him to release hands like kq , kj, kten, king 9, all queen combos with the same although him having a queen isn’t that likely, get him to fold jx etc. Your folding to build the pot should you win and deny equity for hands that have over cards and can catch. Getting him to fold all his hands outright is ideal, and folding ace x is great. Getting him to call with crappier 8’s or 6x, or calling with straight draws is good. If this is a little too loose than you could argue to call this q8s, but raise q8 with a back door flush draw, or raise with ace8 and king 8. Q8 is definitely on the line for reraise or just call. I’d reraise 20%of the time and call the rest. You usually want to reraise with strong but vulnerable hands against weak players so as to build the pot, but this is much more difficult against regs. Keep in mind that hands like 89 or 87 can be raised but you are beat by 95%of the villains 8x hands so it’s different than 8q k or ace. But, at the end of the day if you’re unsure just call. On the turn you could reraise 90% as with one card you’re much less likely to be outdrawn than if you hit two pair on the flop, and you want to deny equity to overpairs, aceq, ace8, 9/10s and j10s. You can also flat with the intention of blasting it on the river… but anytime you can deny equity and build the pot in case you win, you should

In that first Q8 scenario, my thinking is that on the flop, by getting the best hand which won't be that often, I should just cash in on that and raise so that they can't pick up anything good on the turn or river. And then on the turn, I'd call because I'd be pretty confident that I had the best hand and I doubt they'll call a raise. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this logic?

Over the past two weeks I've played 16 tournaments... all with over 500 people- most with over 700 people..., I won two of them .I placed in the cash in 14 of them and made it to the final table in 10 of them .⁶4⁴4 I'm wondering if I began to play better but it's not that I just stopped playing bad and at 12: 30 in your video you make a comment that is so profound I thought the higher the stakes of the tournament the better the players but it's not true all you have to do is sit there and play sound poker and wait for people to make silly mistakes and capitalize and you'll be a profitable tournament player it's working for me also you have to have the discipline to let go of good hands play situational poker wait for good situations they present themselves all the time

I would def raise that q8 2pr on the turn( in the beginning). Too many draws and knowing the player is a bad player, kind of opens up the range of hands the guy could’ve had. Straight draws, flush draw are too risky to let a inexperienced player see a free river card, potentially hitting their draw. Make them pay for it. Keep the ball in your court, not theirs

It depends on stack-depth, not stage. Typically when you're 25-40bbs deep, in-position 3-bet size should be 3x the bet and out-of-position size should be 3.8x the opponents bet. When you are deeper stacked, using a 3.2x in position and 4x out of position is great.

Tip 1 get lucky Tip 2 get lucky Tip 3 get lucky. My biggest win was 1st place of 1800 players and I did it by... getting lucky. I wish skill matters :p But I just raced an important AJ vs A10 race and a 10 came on the board instantly. Pokerstars is rigged though I had like 8 drawsouts with a better A high than the other players and lost all 8 times where "skill" and percentages say I was supposed to likely win 5 out of 8 of the times. So use pokerstars to practice and get lucky. Find a better random number generator than pokerstars if you want to make a living playing poker. They can rig it legally and it's just business as usual. And thanks Jonathon for the advice. Do your best to make that poker hall of fame like I wish I were destined for... cheers.

QQ is not as difficult as you are only crushed by KK+ and they are most likely 3betting smaller for value instead of 3bet all in.

On 31 minutes I doubt massively that you will often get a 6 to fold. Bluffing in spots like these only works when the opponent has nothing. It's a good bluff only because the opponent doesn't jam the river which he'll probably do with a pair.

As stacks get shorter, you will realize equity better out of position, so playing out of position isn't as detrimental - leading you to be able to open wider.

Interesting first hand, why is raising the turn not advisable? In my mind AK is one of the few hands he'd fold, which is obvs the argument for calling, but as a weak player he's prob calling all KQ, AQ and any Qx, all combinations of straight draws and gutshots, all combos of flush draws, all overpairs, and all worse two pairs like 86s...I'm aware we block a couple of those hands but I reckon you get sooo many calls from worse hands when you raise turn here? Just started playing online but I always register with 3 to 5 levels remaining in registration with 15 to 25 bigs. Is it better to register that late or should you be getting in early. I know you will cash more often then but is it the optimal strategy

Depends on whether you have an edge in the early stage against ur opponents. Do you have an edge and are you good in early stages including deep stacks? So yeah you should register early. If your short stack game is on point you should just stick to late reg.

utg + 1 can raise in early stage with 4-5s and C bet flop with re-draw and gutshot knowing that if we have set hardly we find the raise by oppo and prepare a good turn trap if the gutshot comes out and we can flood on a possible flush draw that if concluded on the river it gives us the possibility of overpotting. all this does not happen to the Micro 😂

A huge problem I have is I'm currently living in a country that has a weird agreement with PokerStars. Players here cannot join the mtt until 50% or more of the guarantee has been met. So I totally miss out on the big stack play and usually start with 50bb or less. Any tips for that?
