It was SO hard coming off coffee - it was such an emotional habit, but I'm happy to feel free from "needing" that hit. Happy to know it's good for my running and recovery too.

Way to go! I’ve had back and forth a with coffee. I love the taste but hate how caffeine makes me feel. So I used to drink decaf. Now I drink herbal coffee and only decaf on special occasions now. I can appreciate how hard it can be to stop. So very nice job

I've learned so much from your videos. I incorporate strides in a session every week now and also take long runs steadier. I trust the process. Thank you 😊

You’re welcome. Thanks for the support, and YES! Go get that marathon. If it’s your first marathon please start out slow. There’s always time to pick it up at the end when you feel good. Good luck!!

I do my morning runs in a fasted state, 1hr ish duration as part of my commute to work, usually start my run 15 mins after getting up. No problems there. I will have to try running for a few hours 'fasted'. Currently training for a marathon so will try the fasted state for my next long run 2.5 hrs or something like that.
@runelitecoach

Sounds good. If you're a well conditioned runner right now, then you can totally run 2.5 hours without any calories before the run. If it's an EASY run, you can likely do without any calories on the run. if it'll be a harder long run with some marathon pace in there, then you should take some calories in the form of glucose and fructose

@@runelitecoach Is it a good idea to have gels like GU if this is a harder long run with some marathon pace in there? Or a banana?

I tried slowing down and feel like I’m not loosing my speed over time. Tried for about a month and now I’m almost half a minute slower.

Running slower on your long run doesn’t mean to run all runs slower. Just the long run is the topic of this video. If you’re running more slowly but getting slower you should incorporate strides daily, and you should increase your volume. Check out our video on strides

Running long, slow miles or kilometers, helps with you aerobic system. You also need to be doing some strides or a speed workout after a couple of recovery days from the long run

Would you , please, attach your (or some) resources on the coffee with caffeine statement. I'd like to read more details about it. Understanding the science behind this reversal of 'traditional coffee thinking' is what I'm looking for (and probably others here as well). lol, not that I doubt you - I just would like more details and better understanding. Thanks Andrew!

Hey Sharon. Good to see you on here too. Yes I'll do that for sure. I get so many questions on it that I'm going to do a dedicated video just on caffeine, but I'll come back to the comments here and include some of the research as well.

I don't understand the caffeine thing. There seems to be another argument that it can improve performance. E.g why do we have caffeine gels if caffeine is bad? Or is this just marketing BS? Can you point me to some reading on this subject? Thanks
@runelitecoach
@runelitecoach Жыл бұрын
Yes. I get a TON of questions on this on any of my videos that mention it, and instead of typing out the full response each time I'm just going to make a dedicated video on this topic in the near future. But for now check the comments in my varoius videos on nutrition, because a lot of people ask about caffeine. Great question.

I really like your videos. You have a sound and unorthodox perspective on many things. But I don't understand why you keep saying that caffeine does not advance your running ability, when a lot off scientific studies, says that it does?
@runelitecoach
@runelitecoach Жыл бұрын
Hey Brian. Thanks for the feedback. I answered this in more depth in some of the comments on my last videos. I’ll consider doing a longer form video on just that so that I can direct future questions there. In short the research shows improved fat metabolism. So that’s possibly advantageous in long distances. But it shows a hindering of performance in artery dilation and in heat elimination. So it depends on a number of things. If the athlete is underslept (like the majority of people) they’ll be more alert and will perform better in cool temperatures. The effects of caffeine are minimized if you have green leafy veggies to increase your nitric oxide. If you do that, then you can have the best of both worlds. But if you eat a high fat meal, eggs, toast with butter, and then stack caffeine coffee on top of that, you’re in for trouble. It’s not caffeine itself which is bad. It’s caffeine IN COFFEE. If you have a supplement with caffeine, the negative effects are minimal. Even caffeine tea is ok. But caffeine in coffee paralyzes your arteries so they can’t dilate.

enzymes and protein denature at temperatures over 115 degrees. Humans are the only animal that cooks their food. Every animal on the planet eats a raw diet , and are all pretty athletic. A food that is picked from the earth is alive. It grows and converts sunlight to energy. It’s literally alive and you can plant it and it grows. Cooked foods start to rot, they don’t grow. And dead animal flesh is certainly dead. Cooked and dead foods don’t have as much water, they have cell walls broken down which creates blood sugar spikes.

Really value your take on running. But. Animals eat raw meat I guess, but raw meat takes much more energy to digest than cocked/ grilled meat I have read somewhere (did not write it myself😉 ) Do not know about fruit/vegetables though. But I really do not think that a picked orange is still alive...and it will naturally rot.@@runelitecoach
