One other weakness you failed to mention are offball screens. When I was coaching my local community team, we used the 1-3-1 regularly. Our opponents loved to bring their big man up from the high post to screen the chaser on guard to guard passes, before rolling to the basket once the other guard catches the ball and attacks off the dribble.

HOW TO SOLVE

The explanation is very straightforward, Coach Russ. thank you for the knowledge

Hi Anton, thank you for the kind words and for watching my videos. Will you try and implement the 1-3-1 defense with your own team?
@brucemercer77532 жыл бұрын
Totally disagree with what order you must pick players. The Warrior is the key position of the Defense. It is the hardest position to play properly and some teams have NO ONE that can play this position. The Chaser just needs good length and to not be worn out when on the court. You can just have DEPTH at the Chaser position if they don't have the Stamina. The Center position is probably something anyone you could use as the Center or Backline of the 2-3 Zone. But the Wings... you can put just about anybody at the Wings. I will also disagree that the Chaser needs influence the ball to either side. They need to 1st not allow penetration up the middle and when the ball is then passed to 1 side they need to not let the ball be reversed to the other side. And other than being disciplined to know where they should be and being there the Wings don't have to be particularly good defenders. They always have the Warrior or the Chaser to help them trap the ball and the Center or Chaser/Warrior to help them stop dribble penetration. It would be great if ALL of your players were great defenders, of course. But you can hide poor defenders or mediocre defenders in every spot except the Warrior. They can be effective defenders in all 4 other positions if they will be in position, give a good effort and not be out of shape (or playing too many minutes for their level of fitness). But if the Warrior cannot play his role this defense will not work.

Thank you! Honestly, I recall mentioning a video #30 but forgot what I be said the content would be about. Do you recall what I said video #30 would be about? 😂
@michaelcarrasquilla88863 жыл бұрын
@@CoachRuss it's all good man! It happens! Lol! Video #30 would be going over a 1-3-1 half court press. I usually have my team run this after the opposing team has called a timeout to set up against our man-2-man defense or our diamond full court press. We keep the same concept of the 1-3-1 zone defense but we look to trap all 4 corners, and everyone else just adjusts. I would love to just see your point of view or take on it. Thank you very much for getting back to me. Highly appreciate it.

If ball is passed to corner and there is a high low, there will be an opening each time for an entry to post or cut from the high post.

They can be if your Warrior is too slow. But I think he means the Short Corners or the Corners of the Lane. those are the areas to attack this defense. And the Elbows.

Lots of big changes going on in my life with work and family. I’m still here, waiting on releasing content, trying to work on getting players and a gym to film these plays in real life. Lots to come but I don’t make enough from this for me to be able to dedicate more time to it just yet.

@@CoachRuss That is too bad (for us and maybe for you idk). Even though I was disagreeable in the comments a bit on this one your content is great. I save almost every video you post to show my players.
