You are like a gift and your timing couldn't be better 🤗 I've never run with a crew and my first 100 miler is coming up in a week so once again, I'm going through one of your videos and making notes! I find the hardest part of not having a crew is just before the race when I look around and see most people have others there with them. I use flash cards 🤣 to remind me what to do at each bag drop stop/specific aid stations/times or miles and that seems to work well for me. I'll report back after next weekend. Thank you for all your help and sound, practical advice. Your advice is so solid!!

I will not be having a crew or pacer for my first 100m. Running through the night through the forest does not excite me but let’s get it done! Thank you for all the great tips!

Thank you for this! Sadly I burned out my husband last year crewing too many races. Though a non runner, he has always been my biggest most enthusiastic supporter, but 2 years of long days crewing caused him to burn out... at a race. I felt selfish and awful, almost crying during the race. His not being anywhere near the ball, much less on it, caused me to drop at 21 miles. Lesson learned. I'll save him for the biggest most important races, and do the rest on my own. This will help.

awww, I'm sure you can both work out a deal realizing that 2 of you become 1 to make each other better than you would be by yourselves. Than being said, work out the races for the year as a team, cause you each need each other (sorry, this single guy couldn't help but offer input, and help you realize what an amazing team you can be supporting each other in your life's goals and activities, even if you have to moderate the number of events in which you both are involved.

Hey Kelly! I know how hard it is, asking your husband/family to do so much for an even you sign up for. I've been there! Hopefully you can create the yearly schedule together with him (like Ken suggested!) and from there pick out where you want him to be the most. Don't be so hard on yourself! Have to go through these things to learn how they need to be adjusted - on both of your ends. Stay tough!

@ken switzer He's actually not a runner, but I love the idea of sitting down making the race calendar with him. I never actually asked him to crew me, he just took it in stride from first ultra because he's just that kind of supportive husband. I quickly came to rely on him, because races are so much better with him there. I think planning the running year together will help him feel more involved and like he actually has input. Thank you!! And I love your attitude, I hope you find an awesome partner soon if you want one!

@Holly Martin That's the wonderful thing- I never asked! But that allowed me to fall into the bad habit of assuming. I would just inform him of my races, let him know he didn't HAVE to come... but really, I expected him to be there. Oops! You're right, so many lessons to learn!

@@Kelly_Ben thank you, yes the opportunities for finding someone have been decreasing since I was about 28, so yeah, been looking for "her" for 30 years now, not sure how people find each other -- but on the bright side, I have become the most awesomeness chef -- I had to learn how to cook well, in order for me to eat well - LOL. there is always a bright side to every situation.

Thank you for excellent advice. Applicable for ultras with crew or no crew. Many golden nuggets to consider and very nice refreshers. Have a 100 miler coming up in April so this is coming at a great time/stage in my training. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and approach, much appreciated.

As a runner having a crew is helpful but the other way around, crew are stuck out on the mountain with nothing to do all day. Maybe they get blown afterwards.
