How to S Rank Hilda Berg | Cuphead

Oh the humanity!!
To be honest, I put off doing Hilda for approximately 2 and a half years because I really really sucked at this fight. Now that it's the cursed end of 2021, I feel like I've gotten good enough to try again.
Remember, to S Rank Hilda, you need...
1. to beat the level in less than 2 minutes
2. to finish the level with 3 HP
3. to parry 3 times
4. to use 6 bars of super
5. to play on expert mode.

Hilda Berg is pretty easy to beat in the regular mode, but S-ranking her is just hell. There are moments when her fight on Expert is straight of unfair, like the fire thing during the Gemini phase sometimes not even giving you a chance to dodge or when she shoots the tornado and the green blimp shoots the bullets at the very same time. It's pretty luck-based.

bro trying to S rank hilda berg is so fucking hard. like legit, i still can't get an S to this day. like i had a problem with the firing thing, where the green blimp fucking shot RIGHT where i needed to go, but the firing thing was RIGHT behind me so i got cornered and had to start over.

Indeed she is easier on regular mode, it only took me like 3 tries with the cursed relic on regular but expert mode even with the divine relic is a nightmare, she's the only Isle I boss I haven't S-ranked (likely due to the fact that Chalice is kinda garbage for plane levels due to the triple-way shots and the fact that her double jump, dash parry and invincibility roll don't exist in plane levels)

I ribby and croaks is way harder to S. I only took 25 trys on hilda because i thought first the brown ufos shoot randomly. After i figured out what i really had to do it took me only 2 more.

second tip: during the sagittarius face, aim with the bombs directly at the tip of his arrow, and the bombs probably will eliminate all the homing stars at once.

Even better tip: save your super for Sagittarius and bomb right as he comes out all the stars will be destroyed and if you keep shooting him the phase will end like 10 seconds

at first this boss took me sooooo long to s rank. what i always did for the Sagittarius or whatever it is idk, i always went a little above it and used mini bombs, so it immediately destroyed the homing stars and for some reason werner werman took me even longer xd

I watched the end of this video after throwing my poor wallet across my room striking my essential oil diffuser to help me beat this fu***ng blimp, JUST ON EXPERT, I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN TRY TO S RANK THIS, and i just have to say, those green blimps can burn in FU**ING BLMP HEII FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THEY GAVE ME A FACIAL IN AN UNAVOIDABLE MANNER, GAVE ME HEART DISEASE. An easy way to deal with the blue stars from Sagittarius is to use Whetstone, which can make pretty quick work of annoying minions.

Tip! The first purple blimp when she transforms to both forms is guaranteed to be parryable. Also when beating the Sagittarius there will be both purple and green blimps shooting at you at the same time. The purple will have a garenteed parry

tip: after he shoots the arrow dodge the blue stars by circling under them and then returning back to your original position. by this time the blue stars should track you and all group up relatively on one spot in front of you if you position yourself and time it right, you can use an ex and it will chomp through the stars and the ex even goes into the boss a lot. it’s even easier with the pink pellets the blimps shoot and if you have smoke bomb i’m pretty sure you can shrink through the arrow. you can do this method every time he fires his arrow obv

A tip for the arrow and blue stars phase is to stay on the top and shoot bombs on the boss so the bombs will instantly destroy all of the stars

Easier said than done. I tried that but it's just luck. Sometimes you find the right spot to shot but the stars spawn between bullet and bullet and if that happens you're f*cked.

i had an attempt where i got to the final phase with 3 hearts, but literally before the last 2 shots to kill her i got hit by a stupid star+ UFO combo cornering me, never forgetting that moment

I have a master hint for sagittarius, if hes about to shoot his arrow, just camp at the top of the screen and use the boms and make sure the bombs are hitting sagittarius but also the arrow, if he shoots the arrow, your bomb attacks will instantly destroy the blue stars so you dont have to worry about it, just make sure your focusing on the little zeppelins

bonus tip: there’s always a parry purple blimp on the first ring when playing on expert mode, and I recommend that you should only shoot the green blimps because as you saw in the video, they have an annoying spread that’s usually impossible to dodge in certain situations.

This boss is actually pretty easy for me. Literally the only difficult part for me is keeping it under 2 minutes. Keeping the HP up is one of the easier things by far

You can use the bombs to destroy the stars, when they are close to eachother. Also you can bait the brown ufos to fire by quickly going forward and then backward so that the laser cant hit you. I like to do this because sometimes the brown ufos got me on the left side of the screen so i was stuck. Hope this comment helps someone!

When he comes in sag mode I use my alt bomb to drop directly on his arrow so only the arrow shoots out not the stars

Recommendation and question: I personally found the Divine Relic to be really useful, because it seems that you just need to end with 3 HP to get the bonus for that, so you can benefit from the heart ring, in addition to coffee. (Yes, I know this came out before the DLC.) I just S-ranked this boss, (thanks for the help!) and got the rank despite a 2:06 time. Similarly, on Phantom Express, I got an S-rank with 2:02. The number didn't turn golden, so I didn't get a bonus for time, so can anyone explain why that happened?

i think the game still counts it as an S-Rank as long as it’s less than ten seconds over, probably to prevent a situation where you lose an s rank because you’re only a second or two over. Ten whole seconds seems a bit overkill imo, but the sentiment is nice

Basically, the devs made it so that even though the time doesn't show as golden, if the time is less than 128 seconds (2 minutes 8 seconds), you still get the rank as if the time was golden

Be sure to be aggressive with getting pink projectiles and using your super whenever possible. A great time to super is when she's about to change phases and dashing to the left. You use your super right before she hits you and you dont actually have to move to get close. You can also switch to the coffee charm to maximize the number of supers you get!

Did you have more than 3 HP? Same thing happened to me on Ribby and Croaks. Had a time of over 2 minutes but had 4 HP so I think it counted towards the point and gave me the S rank anyway. The same could've happened to you.
