I recommend using a wooden chopstick instead of a pencil. Graphite is conductive. Hope I don't sound like a smart arse, just something I did as well

Agreed 100%, looking to learn and been met with boomers that don't even entertain the idea of someone trying to learn how to do this stuff. When they die who will do it? Appreciate the video, good starting point for me.

Unrelated question. I have a Junior I'm putting a Neck pickup in. VVT the bridge pickup will have a series parallel DPDT a500k added to the existing volume and tone. Leaving a linear and log 500k set. I don't want to use a toggle switch an master volume but I have some stereo output jacks and I wonder how easy it would be to have the pickups work parallel out on a mono jack and separate if using a TRS jack.. Which I have a stereo breakout cable and 2 amps. Thoughts?
