I am new to watching Bobby. Been watching for about one month. I started about Dec. 2020. I know almost nothing about sailing. This episode of sailing this boat is what u call "A PINCHE Mess". Im a builder, I have a lot of tools, equipment, etc.. My stuff needs to work the first time I try it. If it's got a hang up or broken, I fix it immediately. Or asap, get organized maintain your gear. You will always struggle and in this case lose your great time.

Bobby , you may want to consider wearing a PFD because if you fall off the boat it would be about 15-20 minutes before the boat gets turned around ! The in mast furling system works better if the main sail is rolled up properly ! I'd say you need to practice for 10 more days just to get everything down to a reasonable time ! Lose a winch handle and this boat will be lost at sea ! lol ! Thanks for sharing 😎

Something does not seem right with the main, it should not be that hard to roll in & out. Suggest checking the halyard tension, then if that does not fix it the upper and lower bearings.

@@Sailingdoodles Tell the jerk to experiment with main halyard tension and to lubricate the upper and lower bearings. Bobby, this is a serious problem if it is hard to reef the main in a storm. I'm not an expert but if you need a winch, a girl in a bikini, and someone at the mast, to deploy that main sail it should probably be looked at by a technician.

I am sure with the posting delay your race is long over but for the future inside jibe is much better idea and once you flip the main over get the new spin sheet in as fast as possible (no winch)

Jibe (US) and Gybe (BRIT). It is NOT a spinnaker, it is a Code Zero or Gennaker. On a Spinnaker, both clews have sheets led aft and you are running before the wind or on a VERY broad reach. I really hope nobody gets hurt almost the entire crew is clueless or maybe clewless. Wrapping a winch in reverse can be a real problem. The blonde is tentative about everything. Oh, the heck with it, let us pray. I forgot. He's got his VHF radio on so the right thing to do is to call the ship and "state your intentions". That would be to pass "port to port" or "on one whistle," They are damn lucky they had a colorful code zero up and that the ship had an alert watch on the bridge. Ships do not like to turn like that and some cannot. They just blast their horn 5 times and run your ass down.

I see your point but other boats like "Delos" and "follow the boat" use in mast furling system and they seem to have no problem unless they edit it out ! The key is to roll up the sail properly so when it's unfurled it does so without a problem ! I'm with you though , I've decided to go with a stack pack even though the lazy Jack's can be a problem with the battons hanging up on them ! It's always something !
