Today, we'll show you how to make a simple but irresistible salty blueberry jam. What the heck is salty blueberry jam? Hmm, have you tried shaking salt onto watermelon? It's a thing... and I'm transfering that energy over to blueberry jam. I'm telling you... it's so good. Spread it on some morning toast.

When I say salty, it's "slightly" salty... not like french fry salty (lol!). The sweetness, tartness of the blueberry become enhanced. As mentioned, if you want to make "regular" blueberry jam -- simple use 1 teaspoon of kosher salt! We blind-tasted both versions, but somehow, the slightly-salty version is irresistible. Enjoy ya'll!

Growing up in Iowa in the 60s and 70s we always sprinkled salt on watermelon and cantaloupe. My dad also sprinkled black pepper on cantaloupe, but he was alone in that!

Most people of my dad's generation (1934 - 2017) in the Midwest United States (where I grew up) put salt on melons and apples. It's delicious. Now I live in the Southwest United States with a huge Latino influence and people sprinkle Tajin on their fruit - a simple mixture of dried and ground red chiles, sea salt, and dehydrated lime juice. And fruit served this way is also delicious.

I looooove salt on watermelon and I've been making my own jam this summer for yogurt and toast, so this is great timing. Salted blueberry sounds amazing. Gonna try this out, thanks!!

Have you ever heard of fermented blueberries from the Noma cookbook? It's just fresh blueberries and 2% salt by weight, fermented in an airtight vessel for as long as you like (I like 2-3 days). Its similar to this but it also has the added funk of fermentation. I think you would really like it.

@Odelia Tan If you capitalize the abbreviation for "tablespoon" and lower-case the abbreviation for "teaspoon", people will be less likely to make mistakes when making the recipe (or even just copying it). This is standard in American cookery, though it doesn't seem to be being taught anymore from Mom to kid, largely because Mom doesn't cook nearly as much as in years gone by.. But it is standard operating procedure.

Yay! Two of some of my favourite people. So interesting Daniel! My grandpa used to make guava and mango jams. Started experimenting with it and have a spicy version of both. Can't wait to try this. Hopefully will be in Korea by either October or in February!

I didn't know other countries do that too w/ salt and fruits!!! We do that in India! But we use black salt for it. I'd really suggest ya'll getting some of that. We add it to any fruit and it goes so well. It enhances the taste of the fruit and it makes it juicier! *_*

Salt and fruit makes sense to me. Tajín is bomb, after all. Wouldn't sound good in jam though, so plain salted jam sounds amazing. 😅

I came back to leave you a note. I’ve been canning like crazy all month. Love this harvest time. We just have a backyard garden but it produces a lot of food. Cowboy Candy has always been the family star. Everybody loves it on everything. However, I was curious about this recipe and it was a great year for blueberries. I put 10 lbs. in the freezer! This jam is the new big hit. The family foodies went crazy. The picky littles lick the spoon. It’s on peanut butter sandwiches, waffles and pancakes, scones for tea, as the middle filling in a birthday layer cake, over ice cream, and I made a cream cheese dip with it!! Thank you ever so much. I never would have thought this one up! It’ll be an annual event and I canned extra for holiday gifts!!! 🤎 XOjennyinseattle

I grew up eating thinly sliced prosciutto (Italian ham) wrapped around cantaloupe slices ... same salty/sweet concept. Back then, it was just what we typically did ... nowadays, it's an overpriced trendy menu item in restaurants.
