I love how most How-To videos are uploaded by rank amateurs performing their first ever home repair, skipping “small,” yet crucial steps while holding the iPhone in a poorly lit room with whining kids, barking dogs, and the neighbor’s death metal playing in the background, interrupted by multiple ads. THIS should be THE template for all How-To videos.

Hmm. watched this video; no doubt there will be some abbreviated parts, but even so just over an hour's worth of video. Would probably take longer than that to organise a replacement machine and dispose of the old one. What this world needs are more repair men not so called maintenance men. Also not so sure how you can determine if it is a "serious repair" until you've found what the fault is.

FYI, Shocks and balance rings along with the spider arm and bearing require a complete tear down of the machine. Well, the shocks if you really want to call them that can be replaced by removing rear panel and the front assembly. But you are already half way to complete tear down. The balance rings, spider arm and bearing and seal require you completely remove the drum assembly. The motor must be removed off the back and springs removed, it is a long process and if you are doing this buy the spider arm, new bearing and seals, a new drum seal, and balance rings, and also buy the bolts for the spider arm. Your old bolts will break when being loosened. If you find any of your old parts are still good, then return the new ones. Their video should mention this. In my case, I did replace everything mentioned above and mine still will not spin correctly. This leads me to believe it is the control board which is not available. So, I could have bought a new machine for what I just spent on parts that were not needed to fix a problem that they describe which can be unrelated to the parts they are saying to replace to fix the vibration problem. Do yourself a favor and pull up a chair and watch your machine go through its cycle. Mine would not distribute the clothes properly like it used to. Before it would spin up slowly until clothes were distributed evenly then speed up to max RPM. Now, it spins up and stays at a medium speed which if unbalanced, lets the machine beat itself up. I can compensate by pushing the pause button which stops machine allows it to change spin direction and then try to distribute clothes evenly. This use to happen automatically when it was new, which makes me suspect the control board is bad or a sensor is bad. None of the parts this company has videos for that I replaced fixed my vibration problem. Just putting this out there for anyone else to consider and save some time and money if like me, their machine is otherwise in good shape, but it is no longer going through the spin cycle correctly. Good luck

Mine won't complete a spin, but only doing towels. No noticeable wobble. I did see a little piece of Grey plastic when cleaning the drain, but everything works for %70 of wash loads... just towels. My front load year doesn't offer a replacement spider arm with out the drum assembly ($500+!), so I don't want to get hosed replacing parts that won't fix 6 year old front loader. I can only assume LG and other front loaders have similar design flaws, as they are all made with china-cheap plastic and corner cutting alloys

Incidentally, I had to replace both bearings which I was told one could not do myself. I had four (4) professional appliance repairmen to tell me that and I should just go and buy a new washer. This looks like fun, but is there a quick way to check the balance rings first? How do you diagnose cracked or damaged rings? (Asking because I think I just have a blown shock, hopefully not this!)
@DrColg8
@DrColg8 13 күн бұрын
With these Samsung machines and their notorious spider arm failures you have to nickel/dime replacement parts until you find your problem. Doing the shocks first is the easiest but buy OEM parts (PartsDr is most affordable). Next, do the hull (hall?) sensor (under the stator ring), then the invertor (if bad it overheats and stops H.Speed spin), then the motor PCB. If after all that, take the tub out and check the spiderarm (check visually by looking for excessive play of the drum within the outer tub). The balance ring is now visible, but only goes bad if it's cracked or physically damaged (inspect it). I have found little glass beads in my drain that may be from a hole in the balance ring (?) or from a pet toy(?). I will look at mine more closely. Bad bearings make a loud scratching noise. Remember... If you do get to this point always replace the tub seal with new if you put it back together. I may choose to part out my entire machine since none of the above I've already replaced have helped. I will inspect the pump impellers for damage and I will try and evaluate the balance ring now that the tub has been removed. My SpiderArm is still good amazingly. I hate to give up on this machine after working on it 5 times and I would have a bunch of spare parts if I could just get it to go into high speed spin.

Very impressive video, I am absolutely confident I could do this myself now. What mystifies me is, how did you know the balance ring needed replacing? were there smoking gun indications or simply implied by the units instability?? My motive for watching was to see if I could gain an understanding why my Bosch front loader is banging on the cabinet at the start of the spin cycle. Truthfully, I don’t know if the Bosch has a balance ring, there are many similarities, and also differences, ie only 2 shock absorbers and the weights are on the top, but these are not big issues, it’s diagnosing the cause that I am not confident with

I have a GE front load washer GFWR2705H1MC which had a failed seal. The bearing failed from the water breach. Looking at the obvious it would seem that a new quality seal and bearings should do the trick but not exactly. Upon inspection, the drum or basket came in contact with the tub. In doing so it cut groves in rear section of the split tub. A new washer has very little basket movement in all directions. The basket spider attaches to the basket and makes the whole assembly rigid when bolted in place. The tub should never come in contact with the spin basket. If it does, your looking at a complete series of events that lead to the final failure of water leaking. First, the machine started getting noisy long ago but we forget how quiet it use to be. The balancing rings lose their fluid. The spider on the back of the spin basket cannot be loose, or cracked. The balancing ring or rings must be sealed and contain Salt Water and ball bearings that rotate the ring in fluid. Next is the seal and the inner and outer bearigs. All these parts add up to overall basket rigidity. The balance rings only affect the spin of the drum. Any excessive basket movement when pulled in any direction is a real problem. If the bearings and seal have been replaced, and the excessive movement is still there tlhen the spider to basket assembly attachment has a problem. The moral of the story is excessive movement in the basket mount has repercussions in all facets of washer balance. When it's all said and done, the balancing rings, springs and shocks cannot compensate for a failed spider to basket assembly and bearings that have excessive movement.

What was the reason to change the balance ring? Was it broken? Did it make any noise? My washer makes a very funny noise, only when is turned off. I spin the drum by hand just a little and I can hear something moving in the front balance ring. I looked everywhere and is something trapped in between the balance ring and tub. Any help? Thanks .
@fairbornCCF
@fairbornCCF 2 жыл бұрын
The balancing ring is a liquid filled ring with large bearings that move around when the drum is rotated. They should not make loud noises since they are in fluid.

A brilliant repair and presentation but aren't all Samsung washing machines now made with sealed tubs? This is the first time I have seen a balance ring in a washing machine and its name implies it is to balance the loaded drum when really it's the clothes that causes imbalance. Could it be this ring for inertia like a fly wheel? I would be interested to know. Many thanks for your video. You made it appear a very easy job as only a true pro would.

Hi, Nice video, Thumb up for that. I have a question here: My Kenmore elite is the same as Sasmung. The drum felt down and my wife told me that she heard a pank (Loud cracking sound) like a car accident. So, do you think it is the spider or something else? Should I replace it is the spider and from where to order it? Or do not waste my time and buy another one if the spider price will the same as of the other I will purchase? Thanks

so what actually goes bad in these balance rings ? I've seen some on aircraft, and they have a fluid in them that shifts to the unbalanced area. But i am not sure of these washers. If you have to take a washer that far apart, you might as well replace the bearings for good measure. also the shocks might be a good idea as well.

This part is a $100 replacement, after all this effort you might as well replace the shocks, pump, etc. Even just replacing the ring isn't really worth it. You are going to have more than the cost of a new washer in parts and labor before done and the hope that this fixes the issue. I'm looking at just getting a new washer. Turn the washer drum by hand and if you hear a contained liquid sound and also the sound of little bbs then your balance ring is fine

What do you mean by "the sound little bbs"?
@MarshallBLewis
@MarshallBLewis 4 жыл бұрын
@@DeeOne88 in a normal balance ring there is liquid and something like shotgun shot or little beebies suspended in the liquid that give it weight and rotate around in the liquid when the ring spins. Both of these can be heard inside the washing drum when you turn it by hand. To someone like myself who did not realize this you might think there is something stuck in the washer drum like a small children's toy or screw or other object. I don't think my balance rings are bad. I think it's the shocks. When it's spinning there's not a problem. It's right before it starts to spin the washer starts to shake and move. It's either the shocks or it's the springs. It could be both the shocks and springs.

Matt, Other commenters have asked these questions, but I do not see any responses. So what was the original problem? The difference between the old and new part was not obvious. How would this part become defective? And why replace one balance ring and not the other especially when a total dismantle is required? And while you are at it, please show the correct way to determine if a shock is viable or not. Haven't seen any specs on these or how to determine if replacement is needed. Samsung sure doesn't make technical information available for its products. P.S. Older Samsung front end machines don't have a discharge filter nor an emergency drain hose. An absolute horror when filled with wet clothing a water.

I swear this question has been asked repeatedly and purposely ignored. Why? From what I have read elsewhere, the balancing ring contains bearings in sodium chloride (Salt Water). If the salt water leaks out, the bearings move to quickly and make a lot of noise as the drum turns. If you rotate the drum by hand, a few inches of movement rolls the bearings in the ring. If there still is salt water in the rings the balls are controlled and much quieter. There are control codes for testing the machines and they are a very guarded secret. My GE front loader has the ability to offset a 5lb unbalanced load using to wet towels tied together and using control codes to run the spin cycles and observe the function.
