Brian, I'm not a painter but own and manage a bodyshop. No offence but a lot of painters I've had do not know the proper or correct way of painting as you do but just because they've been doing it their own way for years, they seemed to believe their way is the only and correct way of painting it. I even took a several automotive paint classes at college just to learn the proper way of getting a paint job done but they don't teach stuff like this you use in real situations besides the paint skills in general. Although my painters never liked me being picky and learning from your videos, you've made a lot of my customers happy and satisfied and I can't thank you enough for that. I sincerely thank you for sharing and teaching your valuable knowledge with us. God bless you

Many professionals underestimate the effect of the so called orange peel of 1 stage/uni/2 stage clearcoat. Assuming you have perfect groundwork (zero paint cloudiness, spot on colormix etc) matching a color is very much dependant on the graininess/texture/orange peel of the adjacent paint. be it clear coat or 1 stage/uni coat. so if you do your job too good and have a minimum of orange peel you can adjust the color all day, you may not end up with a good result, because the reflection/absorbtion of what you did is different from the rest of the vehicles (factory) adjacent paint structure. this is where experience and the fine art of this craft come into play: matching the graininess/texture/orange peel of the orignal paint leads to the desired even visual reflection and greatly affects color perception. so yes, a close to perfect paint job means you also have to know how to end up with a certain amount of orange peel after the drying process and with all solvents and additives evaporated. this means deep knowledge of your trusted guns, air pressure, material, adjusting temperatures, distance, speed, viscosity, throughput etc. of course fixing "uneven" transitions by sanding the peel flat, matching and blending via polishing is the standard "easy way out" and works ok, but nothing beats your job matching the original in (almost) every aspect. i only met a handful who really could do that and yes it is the hardest thing to learn, because it can't really be taught.

I’ve used several lvmp sprayguns , I gotta say there are some that are very anemic and struggle to put down the paint . Also the fan size is very small I would say around 6-8 inches, now for this particular panel you sprayed I think the gun was right in its elements, on a larger job I think this gun would start to frustrate me lol. Now however, the material savings might be something a diyer would def consider given that paying for material for personal use is very costly Atleast that’s what I’ve noticed on my own projects and side work projects. Regardless good video Brian thanks 🙏🏻

I mean how do you get the scratches out? They never explain that. Thank you so much, I’m learning A LOT from you on this channel. 👍
@tobymarol73292 жыл бұрын
haven't seen the videos you mention, but two possibilities are sanding the base to get little paint nibs and imperfections out, then you would do a final coat of base over it to blend and even it out or sanding the clear to get rid of excessive orange peel, in that case you could polish it out if there's enough clear left

@BearBudgetgarage2 жыл бұрын
@@namehere8865 if you are only going to paint once this year just get a Harbor Freight primer gun(like 1.8 ) and the Spectrum HTE for base and clear. It's similar enough to the Black Widow. If you have a small compressor( 20-30 gallon) look for an LVLP gun that uses Low cfm! Like maybe a Starting line gun. Get an old hood or fender and prime it and spray it with cheap paint until ur comfortable with the gun can make it lay down ok.

@@namehere8865 Any affordable gun with a 1.7 or 1.8 tip will work fine for high build primers, but not polyester primer. So try to search based on the needle size, you will find a gun. Doesn't always say primer gun.👍

I have been prepairing for it for a while now, watched many videos of Yours, and I'm confused about (primer and sealer) , I purchased gray acrylic primer, should i paint the whole car with the acrylic primer that i bought, and then paint with color , or should i put sealer over the primer, and then put color ?
