Hello! Hello! How are you? Привет ! Привет ! ! Как дела? Privye! Privyet! Kak dela? You are watching “ Learn Russian Now” with Anastasia. And in today's lesson we're going to learn how to say “Without” in Russian. Without Без [bez] NOTE that because Без [bez] usually comes before a noun it loses it’s stress. So it will sound more like “biz/bis”. Also an important thing to know about it is that the sound [Z]the may be pronounced as [S]. When does it happen? It happens when “Без” come before a word which starts with a voiceless consonant. For example : Without you. Без тeбя Bis tibya ★ But you know that : You =Ты [Ty] in Russian language. So what happened there? So another thing about [Без], you need to know is that it is always used with genitive case. Без + Genitive case So : Тeбя [tibya]= Ты [Ty] in Genitive case. For example: ♦ I can’t live without you. Я не могу жить без тебя. [YA ni magu zhit' bis tibya.] ♦ Without me. Без меня. [Biz minya] Here you can hear the [Z] because [m] have a voice in it. ★ Меня [minya]{me}= Я[YA]{I} in Genitive case.

★ Without any doubts. Безо всяких сомнений [Biza fsyakih samn'eniy] ♦ Without any doubts I will move abroad. Безо всяких сомнений, Я перееду за границу. [Biza fsyakih samn'eniy, YA piriyedu za granitsu] ★ As we have learned Без based means “without “. But what if Без / Беc [byes] is written together with a word? So when it is written together with a word it is not a preposition anymore . It is a prefix. And this prefix has a very similar meaning. It means : “Lacking something” If you see the world which starts with Без / Беc [byes] it means that it describes something which lacks something . For example: ★ Lit: Without a house./Without a home. Бездомный [biz-dom-nyy] - homeless {adjective} Дом[dom]=house. ★ Безумный [bi-zum-nyy] - crazy { adjective} ★ Crazy love Безумный любовь. Bezumnyy lyubov'. ★ Бесполезный - [bis-pa-l’e -znyy] - useless { adjective} Useful=Полезный [Pal’eznyy] ★ Беспомощный [bis-po-mash’-nyy] - helpless { adjective} Помочь[Pomach']= to help[verb-infinitive] ★ Бесплатный - [bis-plat-nyy] - free of charge {adjective} Платный [platnyy]= something you need to pay for, costly. ★ БЕС[Byes] is used before words that start with voiceless consonants. In all other cases you use Без[bez/biz/bis].
