Can we refresh the prep data from the dashboard itself inside tableau desktop? If not what are the ways to refresh the prep data then? Thanks.

Hi Suraj, Hope you are safe. Tableau Prep is a separate software to deal with data cleaning and pre-processing. Tableau Desktop is for visualization which is another separate software. So You have to refresh it where it is required. Let me know the type of data source you are trying to connect and refresh in tableau prep. Is that a cloud connection like OneDrive, Google or flat files? Thank you.

I actually wanted to know - Suppose i am using the Tableau Prep flow extract or the published version from the server as a Data source inside tableau desktop for creating visualisations. How can I refresh the data source from the desktop itself? Is there any way to refresh the flow data inside desktop or we have to re run the flow inside tableau prep again .

hi Suraj, if the data source is in the cloud or server, and if the prep flow is scheduled, then the data source need not be refreshed manually, it will be automatically done. If the data source is the flat file, then you have to probable re-run the prep flow again. You can't directly schedule reports or automate tasks in Tableau Public as it lacks the scheduling features of Tableau Server or Tableau Online. However, a possible workaround is to use external task scheduling tools like Windows Task Scheduler or a scripting solution to automate the refreshing and uploading of your Tableau workbook to Tableau Public. This would require using Tableau Desktop to refresh the data in your workbook and then scripting a task to upload the updated file to Tableau Public at regular intervals.

Hello mate, I don't know how we get access to company database and then how we are able to download the data of our own choice in our laptop or whatever. How we interact with the database, do we get some kind of id password for access, if yes who gives it. what is this complete end to end process? suggest some keyword or phrase so that i can search on youtube???????????? I would really appreciate your reply, i am stuck for a while..... this problem is common for tableau and mysql workbench

Hi, usually companies may have database servers or clouds. They will give you the username and password to access it

While learning Tableau, you can try flat files. If you know the database, you can download postgresql or mysql and explore more.
