Is that water you mixed with the PVA? Is it necessary to add gesso after the PVA?

I was wondering if you can use this method of sealing wood for oil paintings on basswood?

You see my problem when it came to woodworking was I was to eager to get started on projects and never took the time to learn the less common basics I mean this could qualify as a trade secret cuz it's never something I considered I would just sand with fine grit, paint then finish I clearly have a lot to learn I was happy with my projects but I could be happier, cool video I learnt a lot

Hello 👋, this may be a silly question but if you don’t mind me asking why don’t you like painting on MDF ? I’m asking because I had came across another artist and they swear by it. And so I had actually looked to get some yesterday. But not that I’ve seen this I’m not to sure that I want to do that! Thank you 🙏

Any tips for prepping a wood board that will be outside? Will PVA work outdoors if it's sealed after painting on OBS board? Thanks Clive!
@HenkJanBakker4 жыл бұрын
PVA is pretty solid stuff. As long as it isn't in direct constant contact with water. But if that happens with an outdoors painting I guess you'll have bigger problems. ;-) I would recommend waterproofing both sides of your painting with an epoxy sealer. It will (literally) last a lifetime and does not really matter what you sealed in it.

Hi Clive, your videos have really enlightened me on so many ideas for mediums and painting. A big thanks! I did have two questions: 1. Do you know the ingredients or formula for acrylic matte medium? 2. Is there a substance I can put in washable PVA glue(Elmer's School glue) that can make it water proof? Thanks in advance.

Matt medium is pure acrylic resin so it can’t be mixed. All pva is water proof to my knowledge

as usual clive a really enjoyable video,very informative , pleasant , some people like the prepping and potching more than painting, i understand that , only one thing ive seen many such videos , all correct as such , but after giving it a few coats, a sanding or two in between ,another coat ect the painting then turns out a flop, my point ? well, way to much trouble and work to end up with nothing after all that time and trouble as most peoples hit rate is 1 out 5 a success ? ish maybe less.. so one sand to stimulate the fibers, one good coat pva to dry, one very good coat of a gesso like ground to dry and away to go.. but people say , but it will peel off , if wont last , in a hundred years my picture will b spoilt ! come on guys do you really think anybody will care about your work, my work ? but you cant get through to some, some love to suffer for their art!! but your video is as, usual really good clive, but i feel this method prescribed by many, is very hard work,very very time consuming , to much time prepping boards in general... take care.
