You only need to seal the lid if you have a radon system installed in the pit as well. Sealing the lid is not going to keep radon out. Radon seeps through the ground and concrete into basements.

You must have lots more radon in your area. I've never seen a sealing sump pump lid.

Never use silicone. It needs to be serviced. They sell rubber gaskets for lid screw holes and pipe penetrations that is made for that pit/ lid

Some sump lids come with the weatherseal foam role. Placed in the front of the screw holes and it helps keep air tight. There are also plugs that have holes for fit each pipe size that screw into lids. As someone who services them, I appreciate when they aren’t caulked but understand why it’s done. Nevertheless I prefer the described setup for the lid

You put an air tight seal, but how does air get in and balance the pump?

As a plumber. I hate silicone. It never come s off easily. Idk if the one you used is different but i would have used Caulking
