How to seam seal a tent

Thanks, that was good advice. I came here when I was looking for ways to add some additional waterproofing for my bikepacking bags. The same rules apply as for tents I guess.

Thanks, Your is the best DYI repair I've seen. I hope you can clarify a few things... So I have a couple ripstop nylon fly's to re-seamseal since the seam tape cracked, flaked and separated so I removed it. What can I use to clean up the tape residue before re-seamsealing it? I also have a tube of SeamGrip, is diluting it with white gas just as effective as with mineral spirits and as durable/permanent or does it need to be redone at some point? Do you recommend sealing both the inside and out? Thankyou

Nice one Ken. Can I suggest people test the White Gas solvent in the mixing tray 'before' they make the mixture to ensure it doesn't dissolve the tray. Some compounds of plastic can react to White Gas or White Spirits. This is one job not to rush to end up with a neat result.

How do you think you need to leave it to soak in before wiping off with the paper towel?

I usually wipe relatively quickly as its not the silicon around the seams and on the tent that makes it waterproof - it’s the silicone in the seams and that you can’t wipe away

I did the seal seaming inside my apartment, and 16 hours later the silicon still not cured.... I applied the SilNet directly to the parts and spread with the little brush provided.

Not really sure, but If I were to give it a go I would use the white gas by itself and see if that would loosen it up.. than wipe off and try again. I’m thinking that should work as the white gas acts as a thinner for the sealant
