Man that is a sweet smoker ! Mrs Skinner done you right son ! No shame in that game at all ! I wish I had got that one instead of the smoke / gas split... You got all the room you need in there ! You did great seasoning it too, that will really pay off in the end ! Funny story - I bought mine preassembled, and the flat atop the firebox was put on backwards - so now I have had everyone under the sun think I'm a moron (even though its been corrected for months, they still see the old video)... ahahaha

I didn’t wash anything first, figured anything would burn off. I cleared out the chambers and whatnot. Then I used high smoke point avocado oil in an Amber glass sprayer. I did not oil the hole.

How do you clean out the ash?
@SkinnerFarms3 жыл бұрын
They make a tool you can drag it out but I just use a small broom like what comes with a dust pan

I am just assembling/sealing my Highland and will get to seasoning next week. The manual says that the burn in process will season the oiled inside and cure the exterior paint so what is the purpose of oiling the outside? I like your method of multiple seasonings, so thanks for that tip.

I season the outside just because it’s exposed to the elements when I don’t have the cover on it and it just protects the cooker even more…. The last cooker I had I used for over 20 years so I’m just sticking with what seemed to work best for me. Thanks for watching! Oh also I washed the factory oil off of mine because I don’t know what they used on it and I like to know what I’m eating. Thanks again!

I seasoned everything. Including the four deflector plates to my reverse flow Highlander. Everything looks good, but the plates look look like I burned something on them. Did I ruin those plates?
@SkinnerFarms2 жыл бұрын
No it’ll burn off and they would look like that anyway after a few cooks… don’t worry just cook and enjoy! Thanks for watching!!!

@@SkinnerFarms Thanks. I panicked and pulled the plates off. The fire's still hot so it's good.

Why in hell you record pointing at yourself!? The important is to see the smoker

Would have been nice to see a little more of what your doing instead of the camera pointed at you

No worries...i was looking at the instructions from Oak Joe and they were saying only season the inside of the cooker not the outside ......i was wondering why you seasoned a painted surface. ?
@SkinnerFarms5 ай бұрын
I seasoned the outside just the same as the inside

It’s all painted and there’s not reason not to season it all to protect it just my thoughts I like to keep my stuff in good shape I work hard to get what I have so I really try to make sure it’s all protected as much as possible
