Important Consideration While Selecting Pressure Transmitter
1. Pressure Range:
The first and most important parameter to be considered while selecting a pressure transmitter is Pressure range. The range should be selected very carefully.
If the range of selected pressure transmitter is too small and pressure to be measured is high, than the sensing element of pressure transmitter can damage due to over loading.
If the selected range of Pressure Transmitter too large and the process pressure to be measured is too small than accuracy of measurement is compromised.
But Make sure that the range of pressure transmitter must be more that the maximum operating pressure. It is good idea to select a pressure transmitter whose range is about 120% of maximum operating Pressure.
2. Input Voltage and Output Signal
Pressure transmitter comes with wide range of input voltage. 5 Volts, 10 Volts and 12 Volts Pressure sensors are also available. Most of Pressure sensors operates on 24 Volts DC voltage. Check the operating voltage of selected Pressure Transmitter and make sure it matches with the available voltage at location where it is to be used.
Current Signal In industrial environment, where there are long distances between the pressure sensor and Control system, the two-wire 4-20 mA current signal is standard. This 4-20 mA signal can go up to one mile. One more advantage with 4-20 mA signal output pressure transmitter is that it require only two wires are for both input power and output signal.
Voltage Signal
In some control systems voltage signal is often preferred such as 0 to 5 Vdc or 0 to 10 Vdc. The voltage signal provides more resolution for the A/D converter. The major drawback of a voltage signal is that when it travels long distance it may drop. The Voltage signal can drop up to 10 meters without any signal drop. The voltage signal ay also pickup noise from surroundings wires.
3.Accuracy:
Accuracy is also critical parameter of any sensor. The accuracy of any Instrument is the combined effect of the its linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability
